problems with overlapping color

In flash anytime that I over lap movie clips that are the same color, (like
2
red boxes) a white dotted border shows up where they intersect. This also
happens when my background color is set to the same color as a movie clip, T
he
movie clip shows a white dashed border. I am assuming that this allows the
user to see where your movie clips are, but this also shows when you publish
the movie. I am just drawing these objects in without a border. Is there a
way to disable or get rid of this effect? Is anyone else having this proble
m?

Thanks

What version of Flash are you running, on which platform under what OS?

I have never seen this problem before.

I'm almost sure that you've just drawn your shapes WITH an outline.

I definitely didn't draw the shapes with an outline. I even tried bringing
in Illustrator files just to ensure that the stroke was off and this didn't
fix the problem.

This problem only takes place on my laptop screen. I think that only people
with lcd monitors experience this. you might want to be careful if you ove
r lap 2 objects with the same color.

hmm. as i said - i've never seen OR even heard of this problem before.
perhaps it is something to do with your *particular* setup. What video card
are you using? What is the colour depth of your display set to (16 bit, 32
bit?)

I am set to 16 bit and I am using an ATI mobility radeon 7500. I tested thi
s
theory out last night on 3 different laptops and all had the same effect. bu
t
when I brought the same files to a desktop with an regular CRT monitor you
couldn't see this effect. So I think it is something with lcd screens.

When I change to 32 bit mode, everything works find. Doesn't the common web
browser (person) use 16 bit mode. Is there a work around to ensure that th
ey are viewing at 32 bit?

Ah! Thought that might be the root of the problem. You will also notice
artefacts in masks and png's with an alpha channel in 16bit mode. I gotta
say I hadn't heard of the phantom lines round solid shapes tho.

I have no figures on what is the most common bit-depth used by John and Jane
Smith when browsing. I think the best (and possible only) thing you can do
is inform browsers to your site that it is best viewed in 32bit mode, and
perhaps provide a page detailing how to do this on both Mac and PC.
