Running PSP X. Using the Help (html)I am unable to type into either the
Index or Search fields. Sometimes a few keyboard strokes will be
accepted. Usually the cursor just sits there flashing in the search field.
HTML Help seems to work in other programs.
any ideas?
Pete

One thing to check is that your Windows includes Internet Explorer
5.5 or later and that both Windows and IE are current with Microsoft
Update. I believe this came up soon after release for a few folks.
Windows uses parts of IE to render HTML Help.

If that does not cure it, try uninstalling and re-installing PSP
10.00 and the 10.01, 10.02, and 10.03 updates in sequence. (The
updates are not cumulative.)

Thanks Fred
Yes, using IE vers 6.0.
I tried reinstalling PSP and it is currently version 10.02. I guess I
should try installing and reinstalling....

As Fred said, it should be v.10.03, not 10.02. Did you not
install the 10.03 patch as well as the first two?

Thanks Joe
I've patched up to vers 10.03 with no improvement. It's quite weird.
Whereas I can't type much into the search field I can paste in whatever
I like from Notepad, etc. It just won't accept most keystrokes, It
currently accepts wyun1234567890 and that is all.

Since no one else has reported this in all the time PSP 10 has been
out, we need to find what is unique to your computer. Please try
uninstalling and re-installing, as a bad installation is the most
likely cause. (Many have experienced those, but not with your
symptoms.) Get ZapPS at ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/PaintShopPro/X/ and
run it to completely remove PSP 10. Re-install 10 and the three
patches in sequence.

Next most likely: we need to consider malware like a keystroke
logger or a rogue Browser Helper Object (BHO) in your system. Run
two spyware detectors because no one of them catches all the bad
stuff. (I use Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy.) Remove any
keystroke loggers found and quarantine all BHOs that you do not
recognize.

Unlikely but worth a try: borrow another keyboard for a test.

Thanks for the advice Fred
I've now done all that. Totally unistalled, ran ZaPs, reinstalled and
upgraded sequentially 10.01, 10.02, 10.03. No difference. I routinely
use Ad-aware, SpyBot and ZoneAlarm (has spyware detection). Nothing
shows there. McAfee Antivirus updated daily. I've checked all running
processes, all ok. I am reasonably computer literate and run a tight ship.
All other programs that use HTML help seem ok, but it does seem as
though the problem lies with the HTML help itself. It will only accept
the keystrokes I previously mentioned (wyun1234567890), "Delete" won't
even work, but "Backspace" does! And I can paste from a text file no
problem.
It's not a serious problem. PSP runs ok. Just a nuisance when I
(occasionally) need help and have to resort to copy/paste.

Pete, just a wild thought here, but do you by chance have any kind of voice
recognition software installed? Even like MS Word with voice annotation? I
had a similar problem a while back and it drove me nuts, until through sheer
luck I turned off the voice stuff in MS Word and lo and behold my problem
went away.:-)

May not apply to you, but it was a weird thing and I thought I'd mention it.
It also affected my address bar in IE and my email in OE- I couldn't even
type email except for a few certain characters.

Wendy

Hmmm....I use MS Word XP. It has speech recognition but I don't use it
and the "Speech" chechbox is clear in Tools. Is there any other part
that needs disabling?
Pete

You and Wendy are on the right track, I think. Something else is
messing with the keyboard input, for sure, and since it affects HTML
it is probably an MS product.

Did you find any of the unknown BHOs that I asked about? Use
Internet Explorer Tools > Internet Options > Programs > Manage
Add-ons. You may be surprised by how many have sneaked into your
system. Be sure to check both lists available in the "Show" box.
Disable all except the ones you recognize. If the trouble goes away,
enable a few at a time to identify the culprit.

Did you try another keyboard as suggested?
