I mean when i created a drawing in illustrator, say of a hat which uses
5 colors then import that drawing into InDesign, Indesign will place a
copy of a new swatch underneath my current swatch color.

After i've imported around 20 drawings my swatch pallete is so messed up.

There is an option under the small arrow (top right hand side of the
color palette) to delete unused swatches.
Also: make sure you use the same colors, Pantone 345U is different from
Pantone 345C, or what have you.
