the simplest method is to copy it, open a new doc, paste it and then export
it as an image like PNG
- from there you can open it in an image editor and apply compression or wha
tever.

the source file should be a .fla file. to add it to the web, you have to ope
n
it using flash, then publish(File>Publish) html and swf file. set the name t
o
the html file to index.html . then copy both the html file and the swf file
published by flash on yout web server root directory. this should make the w
eb
site work.

Ok so i finally got the .fla file. The people who built my site did not want
 to
give it to me. they said any changes had to made through them. i was getting
really mad dealing with the people. but we finally got it.

there is still a problem though, they did something to the file so i can not
open it. when i try it says unexpected file format

what can i do?

What version of Flash are you trying to open it with?

Perhaps they have created it with a more recent version?
