Question about recent "photo as .eps file" posts

I'm curious, I've seen several of these messages recently where a *.eps file
is suppossed to be an image. But in OE, it's nothing but code. And if I
download it with NBPro, it turns out to be a corrupted file.

So what's the big deal? A few of the posts I've seen make it sound like
someone just discoved the greatest thing since sliced bread...

EPS is Encapsulated Post Script. Nothing to do with OE. It is a graphic image (often vector) that you can open in Illustrator or Photoshop and such. It is used mainly for off set printing. A Postscript prnter (or RIP) recognizes that language very well. If someone sends you an EPS file, download it to your HD and open it with Illustrator. It is a format that has been there since the eighties, comparable with TIFF in its usage. Printing offices like it. -- steg

To make the eps file copy the text and paste into a new text document and save it as 'filename.eps' instead of .txt. Now open that eps file in illustrator. Stuart

Thanks guys,

I knew that eps files existed, I just don't know anything about them, such
as the text copy part... I tried the copy & paste just for the heck of it,
and PS had some sort of parsing error... AI was no better. It really
doesn't matter, I was just curious.

I guess what I've seen recently is those who are excited about being able to
post a "text based" eps file as a graphic to a text based NG. Personally,
I think a binary is a binary, regardless of how it's posted. if they want
to "break" the rules they may as well post a jpg.

There are no "rules" in newsgroups... only guidelines. Plus the file was just a lot of text. Nothing more than text in a text newsgroup.

There ar rules. Set by the newsserver (mine for instance cancels automatically binary messages). Plus there are people around out there who cancel spam and flooding. Look for the "cancel" groups and you would be amazed. If someone has a problem with illustrator I could magine this to be a possible method to give the example (thought it eats a lot of Kb's), if they do not wish to upload their file to their webspace. But just ramdomnly posting these mesages is not exactly what I am waiting for. -- steg

If it was a real "rule" then all servers would do that, but they don't so it is not a real "rule". It is just a guideline that some news servers follow. Nothing more.

What they choose to do is irrelevant to what is possible.

What you are "waiting for" is only relevant to you.

And you're full of crap.

And for you to say it's just a bunch of text, you've basically acknowledging
that what you're doing is immature and not appreciated. BTW... I hope that
you and the rest of your teenage friends get a good laugh at this.
