Photo editing very slow in PSP 9 after upgrading to XP

I recently upgraded my computer to Windows XP Home from Windows 98SE.
Everything seems to be working pretty well except that editing digital
photos in PSP 9 seems to be extremely slow. I notice it more with larger
files, but I didn't have this problem with the same size files in 98.
Any ideas?

Sharon

Did my reply to your similar post this afternoon come through? If
your ISP lost it, you can get it at

Check that the drivers on your computer are the latest ones from the
hardware manufacturer. This is especially important for the drivers for
the chipset on your motherboard which control the speed that data moves
internally and the speed that your hard drive reads and writes data. If
you upgraded over the top of the old 98SE installation, the 98SE
drivers, which XP can't use, will be replaced by generic Microsoft
drivers which are very much slower than the specialist driver that the
hardware manufacturer supplies. This is true for all the hardware on
your computer... the 98SE drivers are unusable by XP, and unless you
specifically installed the manufacturers XP driver, you will be running
on the generally poorer performing drivers that come with XP.
Belarc Advisor (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) will tell you
the details of all your hardware and http://www.perfectdrivers.com/ will
have links to the manufacturer's driver download page.

I should've added that this often the case with a new computer, or an
old one with a clean XP installation. It's quicker and easier for the
person setting up the system to use the generic XP drivers.
Also, if your computer is a new one with a dual core processor and an
NVIDIA graphics card, for the graphics card use one of the slightly
older NVIDIA 70 series drivers (with a version numbers like 78.01 or
77.77), rather than one of the newer 80 series drivers.

Too little info really, but, it could be just a matter of adding more RAM.
XP will load more of the OS into RAM so there'll be a bit less for applicati
ons and image editing uses a lot. Now you have XP you'll not be limited to
500 MB, you can upgrade it to 3 G and do everything in RAM with little or no
 writing to Page Files.
