Does Paint Shop Pro contain spyware as Photo Album appears to? I recently
downloaded and installed Corel Photo Album from the Corel web site. Upon
installation, I noticed that Photo Album periodically communicates with
apps.corel.ca. I've asked the question of Corel support as to what is being
sent from my computer in those communications. I did not receive a reply or
acknowledgement to the question. Does anyone here know if Paint Shop Pro
performs the same type of communications when it is started, and if so, do
you know what information from your machine is being sent. I suppose it
could be the names of the files you are working on. It could also be the
actual images you are editing. It could be anything on your machine. The
fact is that I / we don't know because it's not documented, and they will
not answer the question.
Here's an example from my router:

Further to Trev's suggestion, PSP attempts periodically to make
contact in order to offer you the chance to register the product
until you have done so or until you tell it not to.
I do not like software calling home any more than you do, but
without more evidence than you present here, any allegation of
spyware is pretty thin. I don't run PSPA, but it probably uses the
InstallShield Update Manager like PSP. Try disabling that and
completing the registration process, then see if the calls home
cease. Auto-update does not work well anyway; you can uninstall the
Update Manager per
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q111006 and check for
updates on your own.

Yes, avoid it. Corel has Dell Computers adding this spyware software,
that tends to wake-up firewall protection, to their computers.

Or even 'Liar!' ... isn't our favourite rectal cavity laying itself open
to legal action by Corel by publishing statements of this nature? Not to
mention Dell?
Go get it, chaps!

You should have a firewall that controls both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Windows XP
firewall doesnt control outgoing traffic. Zone Alarm is free from zonelabs.
com for
individual users. There are also packages you pay for from Symantec and oth
ers that are
easier to set up.

Not only from Corel and Dell. Quite probably he has committed a federal
offence too. See http://www.out-law.com/page-6521 which says in part (in
an article published on January 10th):-
" President Bush last week approved a new law that creates a federal
offence out of sending an anonymous email or posting anonymous comments
with the intention of annoying the recipient. It carries a maximum
punishment of two years in prison and a fine."
So it would appear that he is free to post his twisted bits of malice
under his real name, but he's breaking the law if he continues to do so
under the alias of "Uni". Of course if he did use his real name, it
might prove to be anything but free... successful legal action by those
that he slanders might prove very costly indeed. Not that he's liable to
stop because his malice has always exceeded his intelligence (and I
suspect his shoe size exceeds his intelligence). But he might have to
stop if he gets caught... prisons tend to limit internet access, and his
new role as his cellmate's love interest might take up much of his spare
time.

You wish!
I'll bet you all the tea in China that the gubmint will never lift a finger
to Uni. He just isn't worth the trouble. Anyone who has a minimum of two
functioning brain cells and who reads more than one of his posts will
realize just how big a twit Uni really is. I will admit though, it's a
pleasant diversion once in a while to go Uni bashing, especially when things
are slow. He is so easy it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

That's a shame... Big Bubba in cell 273 was so looking forward to it.
