Is there a (simple) way to, say, make a box, long and narrow, that starts wi
th a
dark color, say blue, and fades to a softer shade as it goes across the box?
Does this question make sense? I can't think of any other way to describe it
.
Thanks.

Draw a rectangle with vector shapes tool. Set the background fill to be
a gradient. If none of the canned gradients fit the bill, you can
create your own.
