If you have CS2 you're in luck because you have the Live Trace and Live
Paint tools. I'm still using AI 9.0.2 so I can't really help, but others
here can help you. Play with it a while, try AI Help and/or the manual, then
come back with specific questions. On weekends there are far fewer postings
in the group.

If you're using an older version, there is a Trace tool, but it isn't much
help. Much better to use the pen tool and start tracing it by hand. There is
a dedicated program called Silhouette that is supposed to work decently, but
I don't have that either. sihouetteonline.com. But it sounds like the Live
Trace tool may kill this product.

I believe the image already has been traced?

Use Expand to start with. It will break up your vectorized image in paths.
Then toggle (when necessary) between the Direct and regular Selection Tool.

Ah. I didn't realize a traced image wouldn't already be separate paths. I
*XXX*umed it really wasn't a traced image. Good to know if I ever get CS2;)
I'm sooo curious about how these tools work in practice.

If you watch the video someone gave a link to, <www.creativecows.net>
search for the Illy tutorials, you get a view on what Live Trace can do.
The result on that video is a complete vector file witin a square with 4
selection points. If you hit Expand the vector file will give you alle
the separate paths.
