I'm trying to create a flash layout using imported bitmaps. I want to erase
the
background of the bitmap, but I found that the eraser tool won't erase the
bitmap and instead just erase whatever is behind it. Could someone please te
ll
me how I can erase bitmaps? Thanks.
The way I understand it, Flash graphics tools are for vectors.
You need to use Fireworks or equivalent.

you can if you break apart the bitmap - then use erasor tool or select tool
to draw selection.
keep in mind what you "erase" does not mean the bytes are thrown out as well
- flash will still
reference the entire bitmap in the library as it was imported - so you gain
nothing in terms of
smaller file sizes. always best to edit your bitmaps outside of flash.

edit the image in raster-based image editor (P'shop, fireworks, etc...) and
keep the background
areas transparent - then export as PNG-24 (supports transparency) - import i
nto flash and adjust jpg
compression in flash publish settings. search forum and help docs as this ha
s been discussed several
times.
good luck
hope this helps.
