I am brand new to Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and would like to get started. Do
es anyone have any sugestions for beginner tutorials that cover all of the b
asics and maey even have assignemts to do.

I strongly advise that you learn basic html and the use of css before you
get too deep into Dreamweaver.  Knowing the basics is only going to help you
progress further and allow you to troubleshoot any problems you encounter.

The last link in my sig is a good one too  :)  it allows you to use google
to search this forum for previous posts.  Start by searching there if you
are looking for something in particular, if you can't find the answer, then
post your questions here.

Check out the tutorials at http://www.lynda.com. They've just come out with 
a whole series about DW8.

A couple of books that helped me get comfortable with Flash MX 2004 was
Training from the Source.  It's step-by-step approach is pretty good for tho
se
new to the software.   Here's the one for Dreamweaver 8:
