Help determining what to charge for text ads

I was recently contacted by someone who wants to place some text ads on my
site. They are asking how much it would be.

The problem is that I have no idea how to charge. This isn't a CPC or CPM
campaign, and I've never priced an ad which is essentially just a link.

Any advice on how to do this? Thanks...

Usually they are doing this for the sake of google - it depends on the PR of
your site (for that subject) ... I mean if your no1 for laptops, and they
sell laptops, you can charge a STUPID amount ... However a normal site,
linking to another site - no idea ...

What PR is your page? Or what PR is your homepage if they are asking for
site-wide links.

Armed with the PR figure go to eBay and open the Advanced Search page:
http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/Ad...h?sofindtype=13
Type in "PR5" or whatever yours is and select "Completed Listings Only"
hit "search" and enjoy tons of info about what different PR links have
been sold for recently.

I'd be interested to know that myself, because my site has nothing to do
with what they are selling. ;-)

Thanks...since I don't know I'll try a few different terms and see what kind
of results I get...

Think of a price. Offer it. If they come straight back, it was too
low. If they don't come back, it was too high. If they come ba=ck and
negotiate it was about right.

Live and learn.

Or in short GUESS! <g>

Well, that's easy. Just get yourself Google Toolbar (assuming you use
either IE or Firefox):
http://toolbar.google.com/
Then got to advanced options and enable the PR bar.

If their site has nothing to do with yours, then you have to be extra
careful 'cause there is a possibility some scam artists are doing this.
There are still be some benefits of having a link from a high-PR site even
though it's irrelevant, but if your site is PR4 or less, that's definitely
a scam 'cause those links, if irrelevant, don't cost anything. Yours must
be good, BTW, otherwise you wouldn't get the request, I'd think.

It helps to know what your pages' PR is, so use the toolbar. Without
knowing your PR you can't really get into selling links...

Thank God for Matt!!!

Praise be upon him!!

Just when I thought all sense had left the place, Matt came along and
redeemed the situation! I must say, I have never read so much bull as I
have seen about this PR nonsense.

Take Matt's.

You can simply charge for a time period if you don't want to get into
counting views and clicks, very wise if you ask me.

This one is interesting. It will give you a full report on the value of a
link from your page.
http://www.seomoz.org/tools/link-price-tool.php
I don't know how accurate it is
