I have work with templates on a regular basis and found that when working wi
th
DW8 all links get a "templates/" added to the front of them. This is for all
links, image source locations, javascript source locations, etc.

Please answer the following questions for me:

1. How is your local site defined (i.e., where is your local root folder)?
2. What do you have in the http:// field of your local site's definition?
3. What kind of link relativity are you using - root or document?

It appears that any link left as document relative in a template is getting
../Templates/ added to the link in any page created from the template. It
was not this way in MX2004

If the link is absolute or starts with relative path info such as ../ or /
then it also seems to work but there is no way to really make it document
relative to the newly created document in Dreamweaver 8.

Hey Murray,

While I was not the original poster, here is my info.

Local Root Folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
Links Relative to: Document
http address is: http://localhost/

It will do the same thing whether the site is set to document or root
relative.

I've found the same issue. The DW8 install automatiically included all the
MX2004 sites. I updated my template, and all the links are now prefaced wit
h
the templates/ directory.

1) Local site is on my local hard drive
2) Site http address is fully qualified (http://xxxxx)
3) Links are relative to the document

Looking at the code in the template, I correctly see the links as
"pagename.asp" or "../pagename.asp", but once the linked pages are updated,
all
linkes are changed to "templates/pagename.asp" or "../templates/pagename.asp
".

Opened the site again in MX2004, resaved the template, and it correctly
updated all the pages, fixing the broken links.

Very first update I've made with DW8, and it's buggy...

The template engine was actually FIXED in this version... So they must be
relative to the document, but the TEMPLATE is in its own directory. Links
must start with ../

Read about the change here (it bit me too!):

Emerging issues has the same basic info:

Not buggy... Just changed (and can be shocking)... :)

Yep, I discovered the same "feature". It hit me with the include files that
 we
normally set up in our sites. Re-linking them in DW8 the "new" way fixed th
e
paths. Something to be aware of when working with MX sites being upgraded t
o
DW8 sites...
