Hello

Is it possible to switch off stylesheets when a browser opens a web
page?
My pages work well in NS7, IE 6, Mozilla etc but Opera 7 doesnt handle
positional elements very well.

My idea is to have Opera display a text only version of the site with
no styling but use the CSS as normal in other browsers.

URL? Opera generally has much less problems with positioning than IE. I
don't remember any thing with positioning that would not work on Opera
that would work in IE.

I don't think you need to do that for Opera, fixing CSS is propably
enaugh.

Google for Owen hack if you still think you need to do that, and some
reason don't want to post URL.

Something I forgot to mention in the last response..

It is usually better, though, to ensure your CSS is
valid and create styles that are suited to all browsers
(but of course, that's easier said than done!)

In many cases it's possible to write the stylesheet in such a way that
some or all of the styles are hidden from certain browsers.

Unlikely. In many respects O7 has better CSS support than IE6 . Can
you post a URL? I'm sure you'd rather have the CSS working in all
(modern) browsers than hidden from some.

Thanks to all who have replied. My case for asking the question was
based on my experimentation with the page at
http://www.gazingus.org/html/menuDropdown.html

You will see the page works as it should in Opera 7 here but...

I then took the code and altered the positioning of the menu as can be
seen at http://www.bangor.ac.uk/~absc04/dropdown/dropdown2.html to
allow room for a logo and banner etc.

Seems to work very well in IE, NS etc (as I previously mentioned)
except in Opera 7 - take a look, its doing some strange things - hence
my idea to switch off the CSS (unfortuanately) and provide a text
version.

The problem is not with the CSS. The problem is with the JavaScript,
Opera has difficulties with properties such as offsetWidth.

I would look around for another dropdown menu script. There are lots
of them out there and some of them work well in a wide range of
browsers, including Opera. The one you have at the moment is odd, to
make any of menus appear at first I need to click on one of the links,
but after that all the menus appear when I mouseover the links.
