Hello again,

Well... http://www.amykimber.com/temp.asp - I'm having another bash
at no-tables layouts... what do you think? :-)

Now I've used px values quite a lot, but the centre does not have a
set width, so it's dynamic :-) Now, I've had to set a height for middle
sections... am I right in assuming that you can't just set the top and
bottom values? When I do that my sections end up all over the place :-/

So, if I use the basic layout I've got here but change the height of
the sections depending on what's in each page will that work?

http://www.amykimber.com/ed.asp is the table version I was working
on till I got side tracked this morning!

Any feedback welcome :-)

Amy with no elephants

Artist, the good little Microsoft drone heard "Amy" <blar@blar.blar.com>

I think the top white seperator that forms the 'T' should be fat, and fat white seperator between your navigation and content should be thin to match your logo. That, and I would have the links start off without any underline and then have them underlined on rollover. Other than that, it looks good. -- AIM: GCCFurryBoy mellorya@yahoo.com http://www.practialdesigns.com/ "Neither hope nor fear" - Isabella d'Este "For to do either is to fall to the beast" - Joseph Richmond "The Cow Kings a Bastard! Loads quick at 56K. The layout looks great to me. But ... the pretty graphic that delineates the right hand side of the page covers up the far right hand side of the text in Mac IE5 at 640x480 rez. Looks good in Opera 5 and, I suspect, Mozilla if it hadn't crashed on me while I opened it without entering your URL. I wouldn't be overly concerned. Time to reboot. leo -- <http://web0.greatbasin.net/~leo/>

Your page says you're Hons degree computer scientist and web developer. ...now try to learn a little about design, 'cause your page looks quite awful! Design is all around you. Look and copy ...supermarket labels, magazine covers, cinema posters, junk mail in your post etc etc etc. -- W

*cough*inconsistency*cough* When I hit gallery, there were a few problems. 1) as I moved between the submenu in the gallery, the blue-grey bar on the left changed size by a few pixels 2) same as #1, the image of the city building was jumping around the place 3) Horrible navigation... where's the back button? where's the main menu? I'm an idiot user, currently in the "cornwall album" and wish to navigate to the "holidays album" or the "education" section. What now?

/me hand kevin some water :-)

You forgot to mention the rubish contrast on the text on the left, the way too big titles of the albums, the really really REALLY terrible spelling... The totally nutty way the albums are organized - I mean, shouldn't germany be in europe? And if it deserves its own catagory, why isn't that stated. Why waste all that space on the left anyway for rubish navigation? it gets in the way of the photos. less room. And surely there should be a page-at-a-time option so people don't have to view all those hundreds of slightly dull rome pictures at once? And whilst we're at it, some better descriptions would be nice... and although Rome is in Europe... wasn't it also a holiday?!? Organisation isn't just a word in the dictionary ya know. And why is there a huge picture of some fountain in singapore one a page about Newbury and Dis Ag Soc.... and what on earth is that meant to anyway? If the full name wouldn't fit on the first page without wrapping didn't that set alarm bells ringing as to the rubish layout?

Oh yeah... the side nav sucks.... :-) I threw that page together in a few hours, I like the basic idea, it works well, but boy are there some thigns to deal with :-) basically it's a site where I put images I've taken onto for my friends and family to look at, I intend to put some more pages between my main site and this site saying 'if you don't know me go away', but I'm not sure how to phrses it yet :-) I may pasword it, but then I can't say to people I want to look at the pics - hey go to my website... I'm still mulling on this...

I've heard this being said before... are there some browsers that don't have a back button? I put the nav in in about... oo.... 3 minutes.... do you think it shows? :-) So... my photo site is... questionable.... but, going back to my original questions, it's ok to have a hard-coded height on a <div> tag? and no-one knows why you can set right and left values and no width but not top and bottom values but no height? Thanks for the feed-back :-) My photo site is on the list of things to do, just not at the top, but I will fix all the thigns I've noticed, and you've picked up on, just after some others stuff :-) Amy K - off to play again :-)

Awful...I think not...No need for insults here. She is not trying to sell a can of beans or something. The site looks great for a personal website promoting an individual. Amy, Keep at it.... K
