I am a complete newbie looking to make my own chip labels. The labels
are to be 1" circles. I want to learn how to import pics to fit in
circle and how to wrap text around circle.

I have the lablels but no idea where to begin. Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

mike

To wrap text around a circle, just select the Path Type Tool, which is the
one in the flyout that looks like it's skiing! Make the circle first though,
and you may want to turn off the fill and stroke by clicking on the little
"buster" symbol for each.

I don't know about importing pics, which I assume are bitmap (not vector)
images. I mean I know how to do it, I just don't think it's a good idea
unless you plan on using Illustrator to trace out the design as a vector.
You can bring in an image using File >Place.

Tell us what you have tried; where you are having problems. Open up Illy and
experiment, read help, try some basic on line tutorials and see where you
get. What you are trying to do should be a very good beginner project using
the circle tool, masks and the text tool. But, it won't happen without some
effort on your part.

The fill and stroke disappear by themselves when you place the skiing
cursur on the edge of the circle.

I have been able to place text in circle but the only problem I am
having is fitting and image inside the circle. I am in process of
searching for tutorial to find out how to do this.

What kind of image. Bitmap or vector.

Vector is never a problem I would say.

Try this one for bitmap/rasterized:

1. Place a bitmap picture in a new Illy document
2. Make a circle
3. Place it above the part of the picture you want
4. Select All and click Object>>Clipping Mask>> Make

Make a slightly larger circle and wrap the text around it. Do realize
that rasterized pics can not be scaled up without loss of quality. Also
as you know: input is output in most cases.
