You are perfectly right. Using the 'deformation' tool allows me to do fine
moving.

The only hitch is that my 12 mbytes files grows to 37 Mbytes in memory
during the process, and
when I return it to 2 colors the straight lines are not too good looking.

But this is the solution I was looking for. Many Thanks.

(Yes, sorry 'calc' is the French translation used for layers)

I am learning to use this program little by little. Some tricks are not
obvious, but
I like very much the scripting and the automated tools for color and
contrast.

This is trivially small for a graphics file.

This will depend on what you have done and how you do the
color reduction. If you change the size of your image or
rotate it you will resample the original to create new
pixels from the original ones in the result image. This
causes mixing of the original colors. Simply moving a layer
without changing the size will not cause this to happen.
When you reduce the color depth to two colors use Nearest
Color and Weighted Palette. Prior to reducing color depth
you can use the Threshold filter to predetermine which
part of your image will be what color.
