OK

I am loosing the plot on how to crop which I thought was the most basic step
in PS a crop!!

I was trying to find an image of Scary Mary on the new
http://www.phones4u.co.uk/Info/info_tvadverts.asp

It only has a video so I played the video in WMP 10 paused it. I wanted to
save the image but could not so I Ctrl Print Screen and dropped it into PS
and tried to crop the picture. Straight forward I thought but I could not
get the crop I selected it kept shifting and if I saved it was always just a
black screen.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers Dale

PS Don't ask me why I want a picture of Scary Mary I just think it a good
advert and she will be a icon for several months. :)

It would have been a black screen even before you cropped it. If you
want to take a screenshot of a video playing, you first need to set your
video acceleration to "None". This removes the optimization that WMP is
doing when playing the video and allows you to access the data.
