Wierd Screen Artifacts

My version of Illustrator is exhibiting some odd behaviour.
For one thing, when i draw something and then move the object I often
get some sort of vestigal lines on the artboard. If I zoom in or out,
this sometimes clears the problem and they dissappear. I tend to get
this a lot when working with guides. Is this a bug in the program, or is
it just my machine? It's big irritation at the moment...
I have a pretty good graphics card [a 128mb nVidia]... I was wondering
of there where any issues with this brand...
Also, when I try to access my fonts from the character palette, they are
no longer there! Although they are still accessible from the main
drop-down menu at the top of the page...
D'oh! Are my prefernces buggered or something?

If anyone can help it would be appreciated,

many thanks

m.c.

What version of Illustrator are you using? Which point release is it?

Sounds like a screen redraw issue... Try updating the videocard drivers?
Detonators?

I'm pretty sure it's your machine. This also happens to me on one of my
older Macs. I'm not sure what causes it but it's either your video card
(as someone else suggested) or not enough RAM. Try running only
Illustrator and reducing the number of undos to see if that helps.

If not, you're probably going to have to put up with it or get a
better/upgraded machine.

I just wrote that I have the very same artifacts in Ill. CS with radeon

I use CE fonts - Illustrator was unusable (crashed within 3min after
starting) without a patch...
