Hello,
I'd like to select an area of colour in a photo and change it to another
colour if possible. I have read that this can be done but have tried to
alter it but cannot to my satisfaction.
For instance, a car exists in a photo that is blue and I would like to
change the colour to red, say. Any suggestions on how this can be achieved?

There are 2 basic ways to colourize -

One easy and direct one is the colorizing tool:

Shift+L = Adjust / Hue and Saturation / Colorize

- But if there's a lot of detail you wish to change, you should try
colorizing with your brush tool

Select the region of the image. Then change the Hue setting
in the Hue/Saturation/Lightness filter. Be aware of some
properties of color when you do this. If your car is dark
green, for instance, and you want to change it to a bright
yellow, you must lighten the car because yellow is a very
bright color. (Dark yellow looks like mustard, khaki or
brown depending on the lightness.) Equally, if you have a
light beige car and you want to change it to a deep blue,
then you must darken the car because deep blue is a dark
color. Similarly the only difference between colors like,
pink, red and maroon is lightness. A very flexible way to
change the lightness of the vehicle is to use the Histogram
Adjustment filter. In it you can use the Gamma and Output
Min/Max controls to adjust the lightness level and range
of the car. Also, you can use Midtone Compression/Expansion
to adjust the contrast of your car. There are other things
to consider beyond lightness. If your car is very dark or
very light to start with, its color cannot be very saturated
(i.e. vivid), either originally or after your adjustments,
and you will have to increase the Saturation setting. This
is equally true if the original color of the car is achromatic
(i.e. a neutral grey color). There are other approaches to

instance. You can also make local changes by painting with
the Change To Target brush.
