ha, that was funny,
here it is, if the link doesnt post correctly just go to amazon and search for CEH
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...=books&n=507846
its 75 dollars which is alot cheaper than the material off the eccouncil site. It does have some language errors and the printing of the book leaves alot to be desired. there is alot of h uge break s in the prin ting that c an be annoyin g to re ad at first, but eventually you get used to it. It does NOT cover the new module they added but i didnt notice any questions from the new module on the test anyhow.

ok this is for people that has already passed CEH.
I am sitting the CEH exam in a week time, i have read through the book that gator mentioned and i am going through the 'Hacking revealed' training course from learnkey.
I am planning to go through the practise question from eccouncil (83 sample Q) as well as Boson.
I do work in security and have pretty good exposure to all firewall, IDS, vulnerability assessment etc etc... and before i decided to do CEH i have already read through all 'hacking exposed', 'know your enemy 2nd edition', 'counter hack' etc etc...
what i want to know is, how many question do i get in the actual exam? (can't seem to find this anywhere or have i missed it somewhere?), i know the passing score is 70%, are they all multiple choice? in terms of difficulty how hard is it?
I have done lots of reading etc and i felt like i haven't learn anything new from the CEH course book and that's why i still feel not confident.

it has 125 questions. they are all multiple choice, some have you select the correct 2 or 3 answers, judging by your certs the format of the test will not be new to you.
make sure you know:
-the different nmap scans, the switches you need to produce those scans
-what kind of replies you receive back for open and closed ports based on the aboves scans. it will either be a RST or nothing.
-netcat switches and commands
-stuff about DNS zone transfers and mail servers
-social engineering/reverse social engineering
-ICMP types and codes
-be able to look at something like this http://project.honeynet.org/papers/enemy/probed.txt and answer questions on it.
those were the sections i thought were hard but all have chapters or sections devoted to them. the rest of the questions were pretty general security questions, you should be ok.
Also, I re-read your post and will specifically answer the questions.
I found it to be only a little more difficult that security+ because you have to know tools instead of general security concepts.
There is nothing new on it, they are old tools and exploits they talk about. Most of the information you have probably read in the other materials you have at some point.
if you need anything else PM me

thanks a lot for your quick reply and tips.... i actually found these from eccouncil's FAQ and was gonna come here to tell people i found the answer.. but you beat me to it.
so do u actually think it's worth while becoming CEH certified? i was all excited originally before i start studying for this because i thought i will learn lots of cool stuff and now i actually think it's a little bit of waste of time.
Anywya because i have spent all the time reading different materials and trying to study this on and off i decided to give the exam a go.... it's not the certificatin that matters... but the process of reading and learning new tools..
PM you if i need anything?? hmm... what about lots of GOOD LUCK?? :P
Thanks again for your reply

It depends on what group of people you ask whether or not the C|EH is worth it. some of the l33t people in this world think its crap but some of those people think all the certs are crap. I wanted another lower level security cert before going for my SSCP which is arguably still a lower level cert as well. I got the cert to set myself apart from peers and wanted to be able to say i was a certified ethical hacker in some groups of people, not all :-) i probably wouldnt post to bugtraq with it in my signature but if i was presenting an academic paper on computer stuff I probably would.
Arguably all certs (with a few exceptions CCIE comes to mind) dont really show you know anything, just that you passed a test but they might help getting your foot in the door of a job.

well sometimes random people show up to exert the mental and moral superiority over people but that's not too often.
As far as SSCP, i sent you a PM.
but I will also answer a little. The SSCP is supposed to be more technical than the CISSP which is supposed to be more on the management side. Too bad people only ask for a CISSP when they are probably looking for a SSCP or GSEC, but that discussion is for a whole different forum.

I am still pondering if I should take the CEH... can't seem to make a decision. one day I want to, the next I don't... I will have to research it more I suppose.
