hacking revealed

The Hacking revealed is a good intro. It is not enough to pass the exam. I have the Ethical hacking book from EC council and it is much more detailed.
I am also going through Malware and some of the hack attack books.
I am an antique in the IT field. I started in computers in 1976. It is better to overstudy than to just read one book. An example is when I studied for wireless certification (CWNA), I read one book - I missed the exam by one question. I still haven't had time to get back to it. I finished the project I needed it for so it isn't a big thing now.

I'm sure you don't want to hear that you started in IT the year I was born, huh?

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.

Not sure what you're on, but I sure don't want any! It seems to have seriously rotted your brain.

why doesn't ne1 do it the old way without buying any books? brochure lists EVERYTHING that's in the course, so all u have to do is search for txts on each topic in sites like neworder and packetstorm etc. and bobs ur uncle!!!
and that way u'll learn waaaaay more than ne1 that's dumb enough to PAY £2000 for a stupid 5 day course.

so... I take it you are British?

I both agree and disagree with your opinion. I still see value in getting one or more well-written books on the matter. However, I don't see this as a reason not to search the net for more info...

I mentioned extra books to study . I thought everyone searched the web for current info. This field changes too fast for one not to search.
As to age the big difference I see is when
I worked at the world cup. Going to a game and returning a 5 am and going to work at 7 am was more difficult than it used to be.
I am not British though my tribe sided
with the British . I am part Seminole .
We never signed a treaty with the US.
I work in this field because it constantly changes. That's the fun. If it isn't fun try a different career.
My job now - I am a Tier 3 remote support engineer. When someone can't fix it or the customer is angry I get called. It's interesting.

the "British" thing was aimed at 0pal_t0ad
who posted "And bob's your uncle", which is a British expression

i'm actually South African, but i've been living in the UK for a while.

don't getme wrong, there's nothing wrong with books but i do think that $195 dollars for a book(which more than likely gets most of it's information from the afore mentioned sites) is a bit steep(for me anyway).

$200 for book is indeed steep! It better be a *big* book with *lots* of interesting pages in it
