Leave "as is" code?

| Hi, good morning:
There is a bit of html that you use when you want a block of text to
appear "as is" on a page; in other words you don't have to put <br> at
the end of every line...for example if you want to show a block of
header material.
I have forgotten what this is and don't see it in html tutorials,
though I've used it in the past.
Anybody remember?
