| I rather like optikVerve's Virtual Photographer, which is free. I use it for
mild tweaks such as softening, but it has many talents.

| Confession: since I only use it in Photoshop, I don't know if it works in
IC. (blush)

| sorry for the delay in replying...i just returned from a holiday
i use:
* fantastic machine - paint engine : it makes subtle patterns...hmmm, like speckling a plain coloured square or blurring an image
* alien skin - eye candy : for a lot of different effects, mostly i use it for perspective shadow, drop shadow, drips for tears
* alien skin - xenoflex : more effects - i use this one for fluffy white clouds ;)
check for them at www.alienskin.com
others i used to use:
* kpt5 : made nice mandelbrot fractals
* flaming pear : interesting assortment of plugins, i loved india ink
* axion - flare & glow-n-sparkle : allowed me to add cool light effects to images
---
there are also post-mic things i use to manipulate images
* xat : image optimizer
* 20/20 : makes seamless tiles
can't think of any others at the moment
:)
what about you, jan?

| Hi,
welcome back and thanks for the list! :)
Actually I don't use any regularly. If I need any particular special effect
I try to look for any appropriate plug-in (like snow covering etc.. :)).
I tend to carry Sinedots II (by DragonFly) with my copy of ImgComp, it
generates quite cool images and patterns, but this is more for occasional
use.
Oh yes and I find AV Bros. Page Curl Pro 2.0 making absolutely
configurable, cool, smooth and realistic page curles (and other distortions
as well). :-)
I remember I had eye candy for while but I don't know what happened to
it... I've just looked to the xenoflex examples and some look indeed very
cool..however I think I would -for clouds- personally choose either real
photos or, in case of emergency, results from some advanced landscape
generating software, like Bryce3D and so on, in which you can moreover quite
configurate it your way. But this is maybe just because I'm a nit-picker a
bit.. ;-)
So that's it, I post the question more likely to find out what all you guys
use and what I shouldn't miss... :)
Thanks for answers,
Jan

yes, i guess i could use bryce for things...i never really got into it, though
i suppose it would depend on what you want to do with MIC >> you'd choose plugins to help facilitate this
it would be great to hear of any others that people use :)

Yes, sometimes it's quite challenging... I've never figured how to get huge
moon into the scene with the first attempt. ;-)
What I also used Bryce for is some kind of bevel, because you can load an
image into the ..er.. "mountain factory" :-D, and work with it as with any
terrain, rise it, erode it etc.

Thats true, I've never used page curl plug-in until I wanted to curl the
page corner the _my_ way and then I just found this one to be the best for
it.
I try to do the maximum I can in ImageComposer itself, and the small rest :)
of special effects has to be done through plug-ins. I would love to write my
own as well... one day. :-)

Well, I obviously use plugins of my own design but I'm sort of supposed to
;-)
Taking into account the enormous amount of plugins, it is normally easier
to ask "what sort of the effect you need" before recommending this or that
product.
