Font List workaround?
|
|
|
| Are there are any articles on a workaround for IC's limited font list?

| what do you mean by limited font list?
the fonts that are installed on your computer show up in the font list in mic...
perhaps you need to install more fonts
one thing you can do, instead of installing a font -
open a font [i.e. go to a font in your font folder and double click on it - it should open a preview of what the font is like] -
leave this open
open MIC
you should be able to use this font [i.e. it'll be on your font list - as long as it's open - and you don't have to install it]

| I mean that IC displays only a limited number of fonts in the font
list... it does NOT display all the fonts you have installed, unless
you only have a very few installed. I don't remember how many, but I
think it has something to do with the order in which they were
installed, but maybe not. I couldn't remember if we came up with a work
around back in the day (meaning like in 1999). I seem to remember
someone coming up with a complicated list-switching technique, but I
love your trick. That was easy and it worked for both fonts that I have
installed (and don't show in the IC list) and for those that are not
installed at all.
Thanks!!!

| Hi mamselle,
Unfortunately I don't find all of my fonts to be listed in the MIC's list.
Maybe this has something to do with theirs type, such as truetype, opentype
and so on, or with theirs charsets, but time to time I want to use a font
(usually quite creative one ;-)) which isn't listed.
But I find your trick very cool and I will try it the next time. How have
you discovered it? ;-)

| hi jan
this trick works for all windows based programs i think
i.e. word or front page
whatever you'd like to work on for a bit, without having to install the font
- i think i learned that in my stationery group ;)
-------
hi vj
perhaps the only fonts that MIC installs are ttf fonts - and probably not otf or pfm or pfb or whatever ;) [someone could verify
that, i suppose]
i do collect those still...but always try to get ttf format so that i can use them in MIC
i see what you're saying now !!
i don't have any non ttf files installed.....i guess that's why i see my whole list!
i guess you could try to get ttf versions of your other fonts
that would work!
let me know - do the ones that do not get listed in MIC work if they are opened like in my method?!
i'm anxious to hear :)
thanks & y/w

| great!
saves a lot of installing of fonts as well
you just have to have the font open FIRST then open MIC
