Hey - It's good to see a little activity back in this ng. I haven't lurked
here in awhile and have missed it. As usual, I'm back because I've run into
a problem. Pictures explain it better than words -
http://www.ricefields.org/mictest.htm - but I'll try....

I took a simple lined jpg image and used IC 1.5 to modify the colors. I've
done the same thing several times before with the same image and got good
results. This time, whenever I tried to save it as a new jpg file, the lines
got much thicker. The image looked fine in the IC workspace before saving
it. If I copied it from the IC workspace and pasted it into another graphics
software (PSP 9) it saved properly. Also, if I saved it from the IC
workspace as a bmp file, it saved fine. Hopefully, the link above explains
this a little better. Any guesses what happened and what I need to do
differently? Thanks for your help, Jerry

i got similar results
quite annoying, huh?
i've never run into that problem before

is it something to do with the red colour
have you tried other colour combinations?

and if you must have red...is it awful to save / use it as a bmp?

interesting :)

The lossy compression used for jpg's degrades the image, the lossless
compression used for .gif's and png's file formats does not, they retain the
image quality. Each time you use this lossy compression you lose image
quality. At least in any of the Microsoft products compression software.

so bmp is a lossless compression as well?

Thanks for all the feedback. Yep, it's $#&**# annoying, but I've never run
into it before, and I've done the same process several times in the past
with this same image file. I've got an easy workaround by pasting it into a
different software before saving it, but I'm just trying to figger out what
happened. I can take the original green version, break it down into two
selections using the same process, put it back together and save it as a
jpg, and it works fine!!??!!

BMP has no compression. The bits are there just exactly as you see on the
screen, for thousand white pixels, there are thousand stored in the file.

ok, thanks!
i surmise then that's why their file size is always quite large
