Image Selected From E-mail Attachment or CD Will Not Display

Have Windows 98 on IBM Thinkpad Pentium III 256MB RAM.
After viewing pictures for a while, either from E-Mail or
CD, Windows (I guess) stops generating the preview and
won't display the picture on Internet Explorer. It's like
a buffer is filling somewhere, but I can't find it. I've
tried deleting temp files and refreshed everything I can,
but only if I shut down and reboot can I view the pictures
again. If anyone can shed some light on this , I'd
appreciate it.
