What is Image Composer? Why is it useful?
John

2004-10-07, 7:14 pm

Image Composer is a companion program that comes with MS-Frontpage.
It's used to make and edit web quality graphics, usually 72dpi. It's a
really nice, easy to use program that works well for this purpose.

Sadly, it no longer comes with FrontPage. It was discontinued several years
ago.

It remains one of the premiere web graphics programs ever created. Legions
of loyal users still use it.

You'll find it with MS Frontpage 2002 (IC is on disk 2) you might find a
copy somewhere, try Ebay etc...

And it works better than nylon. More like spandex or rayon.

Speaking of IC, does anyone know what happened to Ulysses, the IC god? I
remember he migrated to digital photography sometime when the digital
cameras were selling for an arm and a leg but this group really was alive
with his excellent tips, helps and sound advise.

I haven't used IC since 1998 (My Win98 never liked it) and moved on to
PhotoImpact, Fireworks and PhotoBrush (for image enhancement) but I do
occasionally lurk in this forum just to see what the old IC fans are up to.
Interestingly, I still pick up a tip or two from Bill, Walter, Rich and the
other diehard IC gurus every time I am here. And, of course, I do remember
you too Nylon from those days.

Thanks guys for years of enlightenment,
Tim

Thank you Bill. Glad he is doing well. He is truly an artist in the word's
purest sense.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Ah, yes. The days when every ridiculous off-topic post got a warm
reception and killed the newsgroup dead in its faltering tracks.

Yes, I remember it well.

I'm sorry to poke my nose in here but I have to point out that
Demetrius was just as much as the IC God as U.

Agreed! Wonder where he is now. Occasionally used to see him in FrontPage
newsgroup but he is not there either anymore.

I am interested in knowing besides IC and PD (both defunct now) what the
pros (the former IC/PD enthusiasts) are using now for Web graphics and image
enhancements. I know some of them have switched to Real Draw but anything
else besides this?

Photoshop 7 is my graphics program of choice and always has been. Pricey.
Awesome.

I still have IC, PD, and Real-Draw, and use all three occasionally. I have
Corel Draw 10, powerful, but too complicated. Xara X is a simple drawing
program with decent capabilities. (Best drop shadows in the business.)
Expression 3 is good, and available free from Microsoft.

Corel Photo-Paint 10 is a good image editor with interesting effects. Photo
Pro 2 has the best fast blemish remover I know of, Photoshop's Healing
Brush.

Tim -

I'm still a hobbyist. Haven't done much lately. Real-DRAW is still my
favorite. I just downloaded Gimp. Maybe that will keep me interested for a
while.

Hi, Rich,

GIMP is, to me, too counterintuitive to be worth the effort. I keep it
around for the gradients and nifty fractal plug-in.

My, my, my!!!

It's been a long time, indeed. A long while, but I recognize a number
of the familiar names around here. That's fantastic that some folks are
still asking about Image Composer and some of the fellows that enjoyed
using it in the days past. And thanks to some of you that still
remember me from the old days! Who would have known that I'd even leave
a mark. :-)

Things are going well for me and for my lovely wife, Jenni. We're both
hanging in there, and we're enjoying our work in professional wedding
photography. Some of the lessons I learned here in this forum still
inspire me and the images I create now.

Believe it or not, the IC site is still up, actually:
http://www.pioneeris.net/ashton/IC

And you can find my current website and some of my work at
http://www.ulyssesphotography.com

Basically, I'm just having fun shooting and learning even more about
photography at every chance I get. I've met some fantastic people along
the way. If I get to learn from and share as much as what I did here in
the IC group, then I know I'll continue to enjoy all of this for years
to come. :)

Take care, gang!

Ulysses, good to hear from you. Glad you are doing well and enjoying your
photography business with your lovely wife.

Please do us a huge favor. Drop by more frequently and tell us your
experiences with various digital cameras, any tricks or tips you have
gathered that you'd like to pass along to some of us who are very much
interested in digital photography but have not graduated from
'point-and-shoot' status. Since no one talks about IC anymore anyway, I
personally would not mind getting insight from you or other qualified
digital photographers on this issue in this forum.

Once again, very happy to learn you're doing well.

Tim S.
