I'm looking for a good way to convert bitmap images (JPGs) to vector line art for animation in Flash. I am also interested in converting video (AVIs or other). Are there any good tools for acheiving this?

you can convert jpgs to vector in flash itself using trace bitmap..look in the help documentation for the best sections...if youre wanting line art then the best way is to redraw it in a program like Illustrator.

in flashmx you can import .mov files and i think avi..if youre wanting to convert your avis to a flash format try using a program like http://www.video2flash.com
or theres another out there too...http://www.wildform.com/flix/ ....i havent used either, but Flix looks promising

Flash already has capability to take the avi and import it into flash. If you have flash 2004 pro you have even more power atached to your editing program with the flash exporter.

If you want more than that I would go Sorenson who have the codec that works with flash. Sorenson Squeeze for Flash is only 50 bucks right now and has alot of compression options and will also compress to quicktime format as a bonus.

Like the other post stated Illustrator is the standard for line art. However if you bought the studio suite you already have Macromedia Freehand that can do line art also.
