Author Problem Importing Photoshop Files

I'm having a problem importing photoshop files that contain transparent
backgrounds. I get a messages that says "Flash cannot recognize the
files" and asks to import via Quicktime. I click yes, then another error
message that says "cannot import the file, there may be a problem with
the file name". The image does import but the background is white. I get
a similar message with files with no transparency but the image imports
correctly despite the error message.

Am on Mac OS 9.2, Flash 5, Photoshop 5.0, Quicktime 6

Incidentally, I had this problem before (on an older machine) but
somehow got it to work though I can't remember for the life of me what I
did to get it to work. Still got the error message but transparencies
worked fine. Now I'm getting the issue on this new machine with the
freshly re-installed software.

Checking "preserve transparency" in Photoshop layer menu doesn't help.
Adding the .psd suffix to the photoshop file name doesn't help. There's
got to be something else.

Any preference settings to look into? Any advice?

Thanks!

Claude Saccaro;
One workaround is to importing the files in png format. Flash supports
that format natively (does not require QT as does psd import). -Tom Unger

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately importing as PNG usually causes the image color to read
way darker in Flash for some inexplicable reason. I know I can import
transparencies as I can do it on my other machine. There's a preference
or something buried somewhere that lets me do this successfully but
where?...

Thanks, where do I find the clipboard preferences for bitmaps? I looked
for the Mac OS clipboard and find nowhere to adjust preferences...

Claude Saccaro;
I don't have a mac in front of me at the moment, but with flash
open/active you should find it either under edit/preferences/clipboard
"tab", or under flash/preferences/clipboard "tab".

I've imported PNG via Fireworks and this worked. Thanks.
