PSP 9 is a separate program from PSP 7. In Jasc- or Corel-speak
"upgrade" means that as the registered owner of a previous
version you are entitled to a special price for a newer version.
As PSP 9 is not sold by Corel the "upgrade" part of your question
is irrelevant. Have your friend buy PSP 9 on E-bay or from a
remaindered software bin or wherever and then install it. PSP 9
will happily coexist with PSP 7 on the same computer and the two
programs won't interfere, except that you have to decide which
one (if any) will have image files associated with it.

I found two Amazon UK @ £50 with Free Delivery and pixmanea who are French
but like you to think there in the UK @ £ 35 =postage
While I did not see enough reason to upgrade to X1 from X coming at it a new
should be all right providing you dont let the organiser scan for every
image (that includes gif's of buttons in downloaded HTML) on the computer. I
had the same prob years ago with Thumb+
