I was just checking to see if real life has intervened, as I haven't seen a
post from you in awhile about the rotate and crop script. Hope things are
well.

Can I add that I tried your script but was a little confused as to the operating instructions :-)))

I ran it twice, but the second time had to manually rotate the image by setting the degrees (by guesswork).
How should it be done?

Tadjio, I'm not Simon but in case you don't have the last version could
you attach the version you have to a reply to this post. I'll check it
out and see if I can help, because Simon seems to have been absent
lately. The script works very well from my testing, so you really
shouldn't have a problem.

Also, just to make sure I understand the problem you're mentioning, can
you be more specific. That is, tell me the steps you took to run the
script the first time. For example, this might be how you started:)
Opened image, ran script, rotated/resized, ran script again to achieve
crop. After that, what do you mean by saying you ran the script twice?
Did you run it again against the result from the first application of
the script? Or did you open an image and run it the second time against
the new opened image?

The more detail received, the easier it is to troubleshoot.

JoeB

Thanks, Joe but I'd rather "start over".

Could you or Simon provide me with the latest script and operation instructions, please?

I came into the middle of two threads of conversation in 2 newsgroups and lost the plot somewhere :-(

I don't know if you use PSP 8 or 9 or v.X or XI, so I'm attaching 2
versions, one for 8/9, one for X/XI, The difference is that the earlier
versions use the Raster Deform tool and the later ones use the Pick
tool.

The purpose of the script is just to allow you to be able to resize and
rotate a crop box within an image and, once rotated, apply the crop and
have the image cropped completely to the vertical and horizontal, like
you can in Photoshop. Normally in PSP if you rotate a rectangular crop
box and crop you end up with spaces around the cropped image filled with
either the background color or transparency. This script calculates the
angle of the rotated crop box, then first rotates the image to the
proper angle then crops. This version lets you select from 3 different
aspect ratios for the box if you want to keep or create a specific
aspect ratio. You can, however just resize the boxes to taste if you
want.

All you do is open your image then run the script. You'll get a
dialogue where you can select the aspect ratio you want and then you'll
get a raster deform or pick tool in Edit Selection mode on the image
that you can resize and rotate to taste. Then run the script a second
time and that works like the Apply button does with the crop tool - that
is, the script will complete and you'll get your completed crop. I've
bound the script to an icon and placed it in my Crop tool flyout.

JoeB

Thanks very much, Joe, for doing that.
Yes, I am a died-in-the-wool PSPPXI man :-)))

That's OK. We think you're a nice guy anyway :-)

PSP X and PSPP XI still contain the Deform tool (hidden in unused
commands) so you can use the Deform too for all four versions
avoiding version-specific scripts. If you reference JascApp more
recent versions PSP should support that as a legacy library.
You kill four birds with one script.

You could be correct but I have no way of testing so figured it was better
to be safe than sorry :-) I'll leave it to those with newer versions to
test. The v.8/9 script starts with the JascAPP import line if that's what
you were referring to, so perhaps somebody will want to see if it works in
a Corel version. A more elegant method would have been to use the
GetVersion Info function but I'm not sure I'd code it correctly and thought
Simon was going to do that, but he hasn't been around for awhile.

Sorry, been away and now just passing through again.

I haven't had a chance to finally check and fix this script for all
versions, but afaik there are two versions floating around which will work
on the various PSP versions.

From my experience - it works fine - but the deform process itself (the user
interaction bit) is sadly slow on the size of images I'm working on.

I was hoping that things were fine and you were just busy and/or away :-)
In the meantime I did the minor edit necessary to make a version for 8 and
9 and another one (yours) for X and XI. I don't know my way around enough
to use the GetVersion Info function properly, but as you say it's not that
important at the moment.

Yes, if you're working on quite large images the tool is somewhat slow,
particularly if your crop is almost as large as the original, but it works!

JoeB
