Curious as to what parameters you used in running the script in your example
pics. It does work great.

For the collage, I used a width of 10 (I think), with border, 3 vertical lines
and 2 horizontal lines.
For the cross-stitch effect, I used a width of 1, no border, and calculated that
I needed 79 vertical lines and 59 horizontal lines.
I realise this second example would be hard to use normally, and that's why I'm
working on an update. Stay tuned!

Cool, Peter! I like the ability to choose the width of the lines. I think
Gary wrote a Gridmaker script some time ago, but it uses a raster layer for
the grid, and there's no line width choice, so this is different and the
vector grid might just come in handy some day. Thanks for sharing, Peter.

Forgive my ignorance, but I am finding it difficult working out why I should
need to use a Grid.
Some examples would be helpful.

Yes - you are asked for the width when the script begins. Give it a try!

Can the width of the Grid lines and border lines be adjusted?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can adjust the lines, width, size.
Best way to find out how it works is to install it.
Save it to your Scripts-Restricted folder amd run the script :-)

It doesn't work in PSP 9 :-( I got an error saying No module named
PSPapp and that was as far as it got.

The script needs a little edit, as it was written for the Corel versions of
PSP. Click the little button on the Script toolbar that looks like a small
scroll (tooltip says Edit Selected Script) and it will open in a text
editor. In the top line, where it says PSPApp, remove ONLY the PSP and
replace it with Jasc. In the 9th line (Host Version) remove the numbers
11.20 from between the single quotes but leave the single quotes. Save it
and the script will run in v.9.

Could you be more specific about how you did that? Effects 3D Effects
needs something more. After you made the red background did you have or
need any specific colors in the materials palette?

The squares are on a separate layer.
Use the Magic Wand and click in the square to select it. Make sure your
image is square too. Ctrl+C to copy your image. Shift+Ctrl+L will paste it
inside the selection, or if you don't like keyboard shortcuts: Edit>Paste
into Selection.
If you want to use 4 squares for one image, use the Rectangular Selection
tool. If you want to see the grid, click on the lower layer and paste the
image there. If you don't want to see the grid, paste the image on the grid
layer.

Thanks, Joe, I'll try now. I had remembered reading about changing the
PSP app part to Jasc and tried that but it didn't work. I hadn't
remembered that there was something else I should have changed since I
had never done it before but it works now, as you knew it would ;-),
thanks very much, Joe. And also, thank you, Peter, nice script!

Ahh, it seems that the missing part was Inner Bevel.
I now get a similar bevel, but not quite the way it seems in your
instructions. That is, I can select the grid with the magic wand but
when I try to apply Inner Bevel I'm prompted that the selection must be
promoted to a full layer and the raster selection will be removed, which
is what occurs so that I now have a copy of the grid above the vector
grid that has the Inner Bevel applied to it. There is no selection left
to Deselect after I have applied the inner bevel. I'm using v.9 so
maybe there's something different in your version?

Hah, it promotes itself without any user interference! I certainly didn't
promote anything
You are quite correct, ignore the Deselect bit :-)
I like that setting, it looks like leaded glass if you select a dark grey
instead of black.
(If you duplicate a few times, you can apply different effects to different
layers, great fun)

I have the warnings enabled in my PSP so that I'm aware when something
is happening that I may not be expecting. That warning is likely
unchecked in your version.
It does look like a good script for creating the collage type effects
that several people have posted in the past. And you can drag each of
the lines around so as to create bigger squares on parts of the image,
etc.

The way I did it was to simply open the image I wanted in the grid, crop and
resize it so it was just a little bigger that the squares, then paste as a new
layer in the grid.
This way, once the grid layer is above everything else, it hides any gaps
between the images, and as each image is a separate layer, you can easily move
them around as you want.
Just another way of skinning the cat :)

A better way to apply raster effects to vectors (in my opinion), is to select
the vector with the arrow tool, go to Selections > From Vector Object, then
either Layers > Convert to Raster Layer or Selections > Promote Selection to
Layer.
For my grid, it does the same as the Magic Wand, but that's because I didn't
make the gridlines antialiased.
If the vector object you're selecting has antialiasing, you'll find it harder to
select with the Magic Wand - that's where the Selection From Vector Object comes
in handy.
Enjoy!

Peter, I use version 9 and it didn't work, but then I made the changes
Joe B mentioned (changing the PSPApp to JascApp and removing the version
name but leaving the quote marks) and I replied to let you know that it
works fine in version 9 with those changes. Just in case you didn't see
the reply .

I should have been clear, the ORIGINAL script didn't work with version 9
until I made those 2 small changes. I didn't try the edited one because
the one I have works just fine. TA.

Please forgive me .... I'm a slow learner :-)
Opened a new image 600 x 600.
Ran script.
Used Magic Wand Tool to select one box of the grid.
Opened an image from organizer. Copied it.
Minimized the image.
When trying to Paste into Selection, the command is greyed out.
Help! How do I get the image into the selected box on the grid?

I haven't tried this latest PSP9 version, but if the only changes are to
change PSPApp to JascApp and remove the number from the Host Version line
then it will work, because I made those changes to the original script and
it works just fine.

Make sure that, in the Layers Palette, the Background image (which is the
background color behind the grid) is highlighted before pasting into
selection.

Problem Solved: I forgot to make the Background active before Pasting=20

Thanks for that Joe.
I notice on some scripts, at the top it says:
True = App.Constants.Boolean.true
False = App.Constants.Boolean.false
Is this a backwards compatible thing, and do I need to include it?
(I've just been using True and False, which seem to work fine...)

Yes, it is a backwards compatible thing. You don't need to have it in
your particular script but some later versions of PSP use a different
syntax for True and False when those are needed, so adding those lines
at the top after the Host Version line is usually a good thing. It
doesn't cause problems with later versions, is ignored in all versions
if not needed within the script, and makes earlier versions work if the
script was recorded in a later version.
Adding those lines, and using JascApp in the top line and removing the
number of the Host Version in the Host Version line will generally mean
the script will work in all versions, EXCEPT where the script uses tools
from a later version that aren't available in previous versions.

JoeB

Adding a P.S. to my last post, basically if you add the following to the
top of your scripts (removing the stuff placed in the same place by the
Corel versions of PSP) you'll get the most backwards compatibility (fill in
the Author and Description stuff between the single quotes as you wish):
from JascApp import *
def ScriptProperties():
return {
'Author': '',
'Description': '',
'Host': 'Paint Shop Pro',
'Host Version': ''
}
True = App.Constants.Boolean.true
False = App.Constants.Boolean.false

So using JascApp works in later version too?

That's right, Peter.
All PSP9 (and earlier) scripts (written for Jasc) are upwards compatible.
Corel just changed the name of the library from JascApp to PSPApp.
Thanks for your great script; I intend to try it in earnest with a posting today.
Do you have a potted set of user instructions I can save?

Thanks Tadjio.
Another question: would putting "Paint Shop Pro Photo v11.20" in the Host part
of the ScriptProperties mess it up for older users, or can I leave that there
safely?
Not sure what you mean by 'potted set of user instructions'...

Yes, you do need to include this, Peter - otherwise, your scripts will fail
in earlier versions of PSP, before True and False were defined. Suz

I leave the host version blank, as JoeB suggested. If you leave the "Paint
Shop Pro Photo v11.20" in there, users of earlier versions may get a warning
message stating the script comes from a later version of PSP and may produce
unpredictable results..... So employing the exact strategy JoeB listed
avoids a lot of problems. Suz

Put in this:
True = App.Constants.Boolean.true
False = App.Constants.Boolean.false

Hi Peter
I see JoeB and Suz have answered your questions.
As to user instructions, it would be useful to have a small text file
with a step by step account of how to use your script,
including how to insert images.
Something we can look-up again in the future as a reference.

The file would be small indeed, containing the three words:
"Answer the prompts".

Why did you pick this? (In any case there are several ways of
doing it). Why not include instructions on how to apply Inner
Bevel or the Polar Coordinates filter or the warp tools? Or
some other use that occurs for that matter? :)

I know not why Tadjio picked that, but I would have picked those because I
am brand spanking new to these scripts and to PSP and so need that to cut my
teeth on.
