You don't need PSPP X2 for any of this. You can do things with
Auto Levels as well as (often better, I would contend) with
Auto Contrast Enhancement. You can also script High Pass Sharpen
in PSP 8. I described how to do it here:

The bottom line is that you should be able to do the functional
equivalent of Tadjio's script in PSP 8 (and might even get some
better results).
