Wow Joske!!! Very impressive!! I see a lot of watercolor flowers on many
walls, in the future. Thanks for the script. :))

Another spectacular script, Joske. Thanks for sharing.

Oh............on going to your link......I gather this is not going to work
for vs 8.10.......:-(

It works in v.9, so likely will work in v.8.1.

Very beautiful!!! Joske, thank you very much for another fine
contribution. The script runs OK in version 8.1, too.

Sorry Vanessa, it indeed isn't. The reason is twofold: I use a
Displacement Map, an effect that is not in 8.x. Another reason is
that the edge effects turn out very differently in 8.x.
If I could get the latter right, I might find an alternative for
8.x. I'll post about it if I do.

Thanks Vern.
It runs in 8, but with errors (see the output window), and the
outcome is not at all what you'd expect. I may look for alternatives
that produce close results in 8.

You'd be surprised at how many things we expect to work without fail
in each version, whereas they turn out to be slightly different.
Little changes in Clarify, or Burn... I always check my scripts in
each version I have.
As I told Vanessa, the Displacement Map didn't show up till 9. And
those edge effects, they will need a closer look... I seem to
remember they changed rather a lot from 8 to 9.

Though it might be some work you could try Gary Barton's technique
for emulating the displacement mapping effect. See the Displace
script here: http://pixelnook.home.comcast.net/TheLab.html

There was a workaround I did for this in the PSP 8 version of
the Vintage Postcard Script. Basically it combines pixel to pixel
brightness differences in different compass directions by using
the Multiply blend mode. It's tedious but it emulates the more
recent PSP Edge Effects > Find All behavior. The Erode command
you use shouldn't be affected. It's just a 3 x 3 pixel minimum
filter.

Let me know if you want the PSP 8 version of the Vintage Postcard
Script.

I'll have to study that when I have more time. A brief run left me
with a background layer that did not produce a very good
displacement on the rose (I posted the rose for McG).
(I ran it in X, have to see about earlier versions)

I was about to start looking for alternatives to Find Edges, so I
wonder how your workaround works (and whether I'd be able to
understand it).

Yes, I'd like to see what you did. I never studied your script,
though I do have the PSP 9 version and I think I wrote that I liked
the outcomes. I see the PSP 9 version uses Find Edges as well.

The idea is this. Edges along a given compass direction (N, S, E,
W, NE, NW, SE, SW) are found using the User Defined Filter and a
kernel like this one:
0 0 0
0 1 0
0 0 -1
The above example is for the SE direction (south east). As another
example W (west) would be:
0 0 0
-1 1 0
0 0 0
The results of finding edges in all the different directions on
duplicate layers are combined into one edge image using the
Multiply blend mode. I believe that is all done in a layer
group which is merged to give the final Find Edges result.
(The rest of the script has to do with the "vintage" effect.)
The "merged compass direction" result is very similar to the
PSP 9 onwards Find Edges command (right down to enhancing the
edges of JPEG blocks :)

With the help of your script code this is very easy to follow. Thank
you.
I'm afraid I wasted quite some time reproducing this in X though,
because I had forgotten the filter is broken... I got nothing but
transparent (read: empty) layers :-(
It's a very good workaround for the different way 8 deals with
edges. You've also rekindled my interest in UDF, to experiment with.
But first I'll rework the script for 8 - with credits for your
technique.

crosspost photography and scripting
I created a script for photos with flowers on darker foliage. The
script takes the original photo and produces a layered image that
will show saturated glowing flowers on a black background in a
watercolor style.
The script is free for personal use, it's on my site:
