| Forgive me if this has been asked before but is there a script that will put
inked edges around a photo or layer? I've seen Photoshop actions that do
it at www.atomiccupcake.com and I have tried goggle & looking back through
this newsgroup but I haven't found anything.

Inked edges can mean several things. Where "edges" means the
outside edges of an image (i.e., the top, bottom and side borders)
PSP can ink them in a variety of ways and colors. Where "edges"
means defining various edges of the various components within an
image, PSP can define them and make it look like they were drawn,
for example, with an ink pen.
Rather than point to a website that has several different images,
any one of which may or may not be the particular effect you are
trying to achieve, perhaps you could either post such an image
here, or post a URL to one specific image so people don't have to
guess which image portrays the effect you would like to achieve.

Thanks for the more specific link, Carrie. The page the OP had
linked to didn't say anything about inked edges so there was no
way to know what she was referring to. It seems to be something
that scrappers are particularly interested in, and as I'm not a
scrapper I didn't intuitively recognize it.

| Sorry, I didn't realize 'inked edges' had more than one meaning. I can't
picture what the other description looks like. The item in the link you
found is what I am looking for. You can get .png overlays with that look,
but you have to stretch or skew them & they end up looking funny. I was just
wondering if there was some way to get PSP to make it specific to any item,
without me having to go around the edges of it with the crayon, chalk or
marker every time.

If you make the elements as vectors then the stroke will be the inked edge
for raster your going to have to make a selection of the element then Modify
selections borders.

No, from what I've seen and what has been pointed out to me, she is
looking for something similar to using, say, an ink pen and
outlining a letter or object with it, and apparently it also looks
like the ink bleeds a bit from the edges into the paper like it
might from the ink of an india ink or fountain pen on watercolor
paper or perhaps scrapbook pages.

Hi,
I think it may have come with PSP 9. The author is shown as :
"from JascApp import *
def ScriptProperties():
return {
'Author': u'',
'Copyright': u'',
'Description': u'',
'Host': u'Paint Shop Pro 9',
'Host Version': u'9.00'

Could you please post a copy of the script or send to VernStump@satx.rr.com

That's pretty good, Joske. I think what would be right on target would
be a modification of Gary's Vector Paint script to work with a
selection rather than a vector object. I don't know if it is possible to
extract the selection boundary though like can be done with a vector object.

Bearing in mind that PS can stroke an element, they you get the idea it can
do that kind of thing action or no action. Gary's script replicates this but
for vector objects only

| From what I have heard from PS users, the action works with nearly
everything they have tried it on. I don't recall what it hasn't worked on,
but there was something. I've been inking a lot of things lately in various
ways & have had to use a laptop touchpad a few times. I'm not very good
with it & that got me thinking that a script would be nice. Thank you for
workig on this.

Thanks for the info, Stacey. That's a pretty good and effective
action, then (ridiculous though that they're asking money for a
preset).
So far I found it impossible to do as well in PSP, even with the
Vector Paint script, if that's any consolation. Would have been nice
to have been of help, but at least a few simple scripts for other
outline effects came out of this :-)

Joske, that is a great inked edge effect. I love how it turned out on your

| Hi Stacy
This may be of some interest to you. If you make a selection of the object
that you want to outline using the magic wand or one of the other selection
tools, then do "Selections >> Modify >> Select Selection Border", this will
create a selection round outline of the object. You can then fill the
selection with the flood fill tool, or paint over it with the paint brush or
whatever.
Make sure that the initial selection doesn't have any holes in it before
selecting its border. This can either be done manually (change to the
freehand selection tool, hold the <Ctrl> key down and encircle each hole) or
automatically ("Selections >> Modify >> Remove Specks and Holes").
