In the scripts at http://www.fabriceroux.com/ can you decipher what
is going on in the Smart USM mask script( or the other USM script)?
Since the layers can have opacity adjustments I would appreciate a
little input on the darken layer (for example) . When the script finds
the edges there will be a distinct output for the darken layer and a
very low level of edge marks for the light layer. The script has the
title 'Lighten'
I'm translating that the darken layer causes the edges to be very dark
and varying the opacity is supposed to tweak the effect. It must be a
subtle adjustment. There isn't a detailed explanation at the author's
site or in the script help file.
I wondered if you could expand on this USM mask method.

Maybe. Not now though since I have a lot on my plate at the moment.
I'll try and get to it at some point.

Okay, its not crucial. I'm just curious related to adjusting the
opacity.

I've been really busy lately mainly because of a baby girl... I ported this
classic USM trick to PSP because when ran too stong or too weak USM
requires to undo and rerun. Which can lead to a lot of precious time
wasted.

The script runs a USM on 2 layers that have the blending Darken and
Lighten. Since USM basically enhance the transition by making pixels a
little bit darker or lighter using the opacity sliders allows you to tweak
the exact amount of sharpess you need.

I hope that I was clear enough.

Okay...
when the script is run the default settings appear to be satisfactory
which is a pleasant surprise. I was expecting to do sliding adjustments
and to my eye the content looks fine. The script finds lots of edges for
the lighten layer and less amount of edges for the darken layer so I
wondered if I was to adjust the lighten layer to be less than 100.
So you can go back to photographing your new baby girl <big smile>

You only change the default settings if you feel like you need it...
especially in oversharpen cases you might want to tone down the lighten
layer.

Hey I might try to get some sleep first...
