Author New Script - Stacker
Howard Dickson

2006-02-08, 12:25 am

Folks,

FYI, I've just uploaded a new script, Stacker.

This is just a fun way to display an image as a small stack of photos.
There are 4 styles to choose from (Neat, Split, Pile & Scatter).
You can also choose the background (White, AutoColour, and Choose Colour).
AutoColour automatically determines an average colour from the image.
Choose Colour allows you to select a colour, gradient or pattern from
the Materials palette.

You can download it free here...
http://www.sheilsoft.com/psp/stacker.htm

All comments and feedback appreciated.

Howard

Looks like a another good one, Howard. Thank you again for all of your
excellent scripts.

Love your new Stacker script, Howard. When you leave the white background,
there's a black 1-pixel line on the far right and the bottom. I see it for
the Neat, Split, and Pile styles, but it's not there for the Scatter style.
I'm running the PSP X version. Suz

Suz (& others),

I 'think' I've resolved the problem of the small black line that
sometimes appeared.

I was just wondering if any one else is having this problem...
I can run the stacker script with no trouble 2 or 3 times than nothing and
it says it was completed.
I have to delete it completely and redownload it for it to work, it will
work 2 or 3 times and again nothing,
I've tried this numerous times with the same outcome. I am running PSPX, I
never downloaded 10.02 patch.

This is a great script, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi !

Really like the looks of this one -- it will be great to use on some
digi-scrapping layouts !

Am I too late to download free, or is there still a problem with the page ?

Thanks,

I use PSP9 and don't have a problem with it. However, why do you
have to keep downloading it? When it was downloadable for free
each time you downloaded it you got the same file as your
original zipped download. Just go back to the zip file you
downloaded and extract the file again.

Ed,

That sounds like a strange problem indeed. As the script has run
continuously here, and I haven't received any other reports of this
kind, I can only assume the problem lies at your end with either your
PSP configuration or other Windows registry fault. It would be
interesting to see if it continued, if you were to upgrade to version
10.02. This version isn't perfect, but it has run OK for the type of
work I do (apart from the annoying PSPX clone cursors). Does it always
happen with the same image, or the same file format? Do you only have
one image open at a time? Having multiple images open will cause the
script to operate incorrectly. You shouldn't though have to 'redownload'
it for it to work again. There is no PSP process that would alter a
script to make inoperable.

Colleen,

Sorry, I updated the whole site today, and Stacker got taken off the
free list. I had to increase the prices slightly for the scripts
collection, because due to the very low price, a good deal of it was
taken with fees and conversion charges. I hope though that the new
reasonable, IMHO low price (£5, $8.50) still justifies a purchase and
offers value for money. Currently there are only 17 'premium' top
scripts out of a total of 46 scripts, and I feel that balance is about
right. I've also, due to some user feedback, added a means to buy these
scripts individually (£1, $1.75) so you don't need to purchase the whole
collection again, just to get the latest scripts.

Hope this is OK.

Howard

All these were done using this script and PSP 10. The only thing that
happened once was a white box was left on the screen. But it never
happened again. http://joelsphotos.waxman.org/Manipulations

Howard,

This is certainly very fair -- you are very generous with all of your
scripts and must spend tons of time working on these. Your fees are
extremely reasonable !

I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind answering them for me.

1) I am using PSP 8 right now, but will probably move to PSP 9 soon. Will
the 8 scripts work in 9 ? If not, would I need to purchase a second
collection ?

2) If I purchase the entire collection, is the process set up so that I can
individually install the scripts that I want instead of the entire
collection ?

Thank you !! Colleen

Colleen,

It's certainly a good move to upgrade to PSP9, which is definitely the
most robust and intuitive version available. You could, with a bit of
manual editing get some of the PSP8 scripts to work, but as I made use
of the new PSP9 tools when writing some of the scripts, and had to
degrade to a certain extent the script versions for PSP8, I would
recommend opting for getting the PSP9 versions. Honest, this isn't a
marketing ploy! I use PSP9 as my script development version, so the
scripts are optimized to work with this version. If I use a tool in
PSP9, such as DCNR, I have to find another method to achieve similar
results in PSP8. Often the effects are not as good, and there are simply
a few scripts which I couldn't convert down.

There is no install procedure with my scripts collection. They are
simply bundled in a zip file, which you extract to the correct location
(actually different from PSP8's script location). I would extract them
all, and if you really don't want to keep them all 'active', just delete
them from the default location. They're very small files, so personally,
I would just keep them all there. The file names all begin with Ssoft...
so you'll know which ones are mine, or you could place them in a sub-folder.

Hope this helps. :)

Howard

Howard:

Thanks for the quick reply. I've been dragging my feet about 9 because I've
temporarily misplaced my CD because I didn't install 9 as soon as I bought
it. Hoping that I'll find it soon while cleaning out a pile 'o important
stuff that I tucked away around that time. You know, trying to keep
everything in safe place . . .

I will probably snag this stacker script individually for PSP 8, and then
get the collection when I'm ready for PSP 9.

Thanks so much !! Colleen
