Author Looking for Tubes: Map Pins

Hello,

I am looking for tubes with a variety of noticeboard or map pins. I often
see articles in magazines where Polaoid-style photos are "pinned" and some
I've noticed include a drop shadow. Search on Google produced nothing I
could use.

Why not explore PSP a little bit more? If you're looking for round,
button-like pushpins, take a peek at preset shapes and learn to make
your own. You'll have far more flexibility and will learn more about how
the program works at the same time.

I'm not sure what version you're using, but assuming you're using X,
here are a few screenshots to help you out.

Open a new image with a white background, 200x200 pixels is probably
sufficient.

Find your preset shapes tool (Image1.gif)

Scroll down to find what looks like this button. (Image2.gif)
This should be in your list, if not, then maybe someone can point you to
the older resource packs, where it would be included. I don't remember
which version it came with, I'm sorry to say. You may find something
more suitable in what you have anyway.

After selecting this or other similar shape, tick the Retain Style,
Create as vector, and Antialias options. (Image3.gif)

While holding down your shift key, clicking on the left mouse, drag out
the ball to a reasonable size. (Image4.gif)

Make sure that your layer palette is open, or open it now, most easily
by pressing F8 on your keyboard.

On your layers palette, click on the Vector 1 layer to open it. Click
further on the plus sign for the name of the object you created, and it
will open up the rest of the object properties for this object. (Image5.gif)

Double click on the layer called "Color" and a dialog box will open up
(Image6.gif)

Left click in the color box and choose a different color, click OK and
you will see the color of your button change. Try a few different
things, choose a pattern or a gradient for different effects. (Image7.gif)

In the object layers you will then also have the flexibility of changing
the direction of the shadow and highlight to fit your needs. In time you
will be able to use some of the tools with greater flexibility to suit
your own needs.

When completely done, click on the Vector 1 layer, right click and
choose "Convert to Raster Layer". Here you can add a drop shadow to your
liking, and based upon the direction of the light of the work you're
creating.

Hi Jan, I think the reason the pin tube isn't working is because it contains
a floating selection layer. Drop the original file into PSP to open and
select none. This will return it to one layer. Export as a picture tube,
inserting that it is 5 cells across and 2 down etc. Reopen with the tube
tool and it should work.. ..Pat

Hi there. Thanks for that. It is very close to what I had in mind and the
angle of the push pin I'm after can be seen here
http://forums.neverside.com/graphics/psp/ with the pin visible and I guess
if I have the high res image I could add in a drop shadow to top it off.

Thanks for your CNY greetings. It had been a very busy one for me,
photography wise.
