I wanted to put this up for posterity's sake. Hopefully someone here will
add it to their website o scripts.... It allows you to create an image
from a print template for taking to a photo lab. In adobe I think it's
called a picture package or something like that.. Anyway.. Just put this
in your Scripts-Trusted directory. Enjoy..

I haven't, and generally will not try scripts that have to be put
in the trusted folder unless I have lots of knowledge about the
person posting it.

Foot! I mean with a Text editor, of course!
Never run a script or program unless you have reason to trust the
source.

I knew you meant in a text editor :-)
It looks to be a Joe Fromm script, and may have been a precursor
to his Contact Sheet Creator script, which latter script does not
require templates. However, I have not read the whole script so
am not saying it is safe to use, and if a predecessor to the
contact sheet script wouldn't be needed in any event.

For the naysayers that think I'm posting a trojan, this was written by a
JASC employee and I got it off the old Webboard. Read the dang script and
try it for yourself...
I use it all the time and it works great.

I put it up here to make sure it didn't get lost from the transition coming
off of the JASC forums.
Sorry I tried to do something helpful. I won't make that mistake again..

You should be less thin skinned and more understanding of where
people are coming from. It is people who blindly accept and open
files from those they don't know well that can have harmful
potential who end up with trojans or viruses and also end up
spreading them. If you just suddenly expect people to try a
script in the trusted folder when they don't know the poster
enough to trust the poster you are asking people to practice very
unsafe computing.
As for your comment in a following post about people reading the
script to see what it contains, there are many users of scripts
who don't have the slightest idea what the text or syntax of a
script means, any more than they can use a hex editor to examine
an exe file to determine if it might be dangerous.
In other words, unless one want to encourage unsafe computing, it
is incumbant on the poster to establish his/her bona fides when
posting a file that has the potential to cause harm.
Your intent was good, it was your implementation that was
lacking.

JoeB

Sounds more like Corel's implementation of a support forum is lacking,
since apparently anyone can post *anything* here.

That's not true. There is censorship. However it seems to be
oriented towards protecting Corel and its mana gement rather
than customers. What triggers the censorbot is a bit of a
mystery and perfectly ordinary and harmless advice can get held
up for as much as a week.
But sticking to the topic, please have some sympathy for people
who have no programming experience. For them the script has no
more meaning than a bowl of alphabet soup. If you had mentioned
you were recycling a script written by Joe Fromm, for instance,
that would have helped a number of people who know Joe from the
days when he worked at Jasc. Also mentioning that the use of
operating system functions (which could in principle do just
about anything to your computer) is something that requires the
script to be trusted could have been useful. Those OS functions
appear to be used for the non-destructive task of determining
the full paths of file names.

| I didn't examine the script in any detail, but superficially it does appear
to be my old script. I'm just happy to see people still using it.

Bah... Like I have ANY idea how it works.. all *I* knew was that it worked
and I was happy for that.
Now.. if there is a danger that any joker can post a destructive script
into one of these groups, then moderate the group or corel should go BACK
TO web-based forums for the JASC product.

Then why did you suggest, in another post, that people "Read the
dang script..."? Did you expect them to have any idea how it
works by reading it if you didn't?

But you knew where and who it came from. You just didn't share
that info with everyone elxe when you posted the script. Again,
please be sensitive to the very legitimate concerns of people in
this - or any other group - who are well advised not to run any
script from the Trusted folder without every confidence that it
will not cause harm.

The general opinion of the regulars here is that the forum has
more than enough moderation (albeit instigated by a 'bot) than
many of us like, but we've learned to live with it. We can and
do easily protect ourselves from destructive attachments by
simply using safe computing skills - which is what was done with
your attachment.
Because you are now aware that a destructive script could
possibly be posted here, and if you don't personally follow the
safe computing policies many of us do, you might be safer in a
group where there is a moderator looking out for your safety.
And it's no longer a JASC product. Corel (or at least the
venture cap that owns Corel) has owned the PSP product for some
time now.

JoeB
