Very nice. I could see this as a nice autumn picture for your living room
wall. :)

For anyone trying to search for this it is actually Gertrudis Pro

The new version has some neat features eg Wacom tablet compatable, can
change the background colour, and can move the image to other programs( eg
Photoshop and PSP) to give it some special touches. Also, a feature I really
like is the "transparency feature" which allows you to get more detail from
the base image.

Lovely image, David. Did this start life as a photo?

Thanks Gene. I posted the original for Barb but it hasn't shown up yet.
Gertrudis uses a photo as its base and you paint over it a number of
ways...autopaint being the easiest. you can download a trial copy which
gives you 30 days use.

I downloaded the trial, but haven't found how to open anything but
the images that show up in the original Open dialoge - i.e., can't
find a way to browse to my own images.

Make sure you downloaded the Trial & not the Demo. The Demo allows you to
try it on their images only. The trial lets you use it on your own:

http://www.gertrudisgraphics.com/faq.php

Go to 3rd FAQ for the link. You have to register & then they send you the
download link. The trial is good for 14 days.

David, your thread starting image is GORGEOUS! I could see myself buying a
print of this for my living room. Really. Not only do I like the original
image (I have a 'thing' for fungi & rusty stuff), but the painting style of
it really adds to the beauty.

An excellent rendering!

Thanks Pegs. I did download the demo. Who'da thunk that a Trial
was different from a Demo, and know where to find the Trial. As
it's only a 14 day Trial, and time is limited, I'll have to try
(trial) it another time.

Very nice! I don't always like photos that are done in a painterly style,
but this one works well.

You're quite welcome, Joe!

Being the impatient sort & wanting to try to create something as nice as
David's mushrooms, I downloaded & started trying right away. I think I'll
need more than 14 days to even get close. :-P Oh, well - it's fun trying.

At least it's better than when AutoF/X introduced their Gelk Series. I
downloaded the demo, went through the whole installation, opened it with
great excitement only to find that you could only 'play' on their provided
image, not your own & of course no saving anything. What is the point of
that? You can just look at their gallery to see the effects.

Although there's a bit of confusion, at least Gertrudis does have the Trial
version also available (once you find it).

The trick Pegs is to use a large size brush to start and then go over the
same area with a much smaller brush...that brings out the detail. You can
also switch media at anytime ie you can go over a pastel with an oil, Just
keep messing around with the size and density of the brush. You may find it
easier to paint full screen and when you do that, you can use the
transparencey mode which controls how much of the original photo shows
through...hope this helps :)

Yes David, it does help. I can't draw or paint to save my life, so every
time I see one of these digital paintings (esp. the better rendered),
IwannaIwannaIwanna! (said in one's best petulant whine). Your tips on how to
use this to best effect will help me get better results as well as saving
the time wasted doing something unproductive.

Plus, maybe I'll have some print worthy pretties when I'm done. :D
