Farewell old buddy, you brought us much entertainment with your bold
approach to handling dangerous animals.

Never would have dreamed that a sting ray would do you in.

You know what they say about the sting in the tail...

And this country is in mourning for the kaki hooligan
in a way unequalled by anything I have seen in over
50 years.. But what tugs the heart is the biggest
line of mourners are the young boys. Some with photos
some crocodiles and a few with flowers (usually native)
These young boys 7 to 11 have lost a role model and
a father figure yesterday. A larrikin who told everyone -
you can make a difference ... and meant it.
WHo found everything in life an adventure and children
his delight.
Not many real people can inspire youngsters as he did
and I am sure will continue to do as his work will not stop!

Yes we will bad mouth the bozo - it is how we let go
- but no-one else better ! ! !

We loved him, too, Carrie, though I'm sure you feel the loss much more
intensely as he was one of your own countrymen. Hubby and I talked for a
long while yesterday about how we both felt that we had lost a member of the
family. I don't know why that is - just something about him seemed to affect
many people that way, even over here in the USA. Even my son felt it - he
(who almost never calls home unless he wants money) - phoned us as soon as
he heard.

Nice to hear Gail

I am amazed where people are sending tributes from.
I knew he was popular in the USA and a lot of his money
for conservation is raised there.. But Uganda, greenland,
madagasgar, finland, ets ets the list is endless..

It is funny we are not a country of mourners generally
we don't do the grief thing and public shows of emotion.
Maybe it is a sign of the times that this has hit us so hard..
But I truly think it was cause he was a human - made mistakes -
owned up to them. .. Went on and did it better and always
gave it a good shot. Some of the dumb things he tried would
amaze any remotely sane person. But from him they never
appeared contrived - not even to the jaded.
Just the Kakhi nutter having a red hot go..

I think the family thing you mentioned is the secret. He
showed us his family and his life and beliefs like we were
friends or relatives. SO of course it feels like losing a relative..
Spot on girl!!
