From Sept 1 through Sept 4 you can get a full copy of Poser 5 free at
Content Paradise (the content site for e-frontier, makers of Poser). All
you have to do is register at Content Paradise, add Poser 5 to your
cart, and download.

http://www.contentparadise.com/

If anyone here was thinking of getting into 3D, now seems to be the
time. Free Poser and/or free DAZ|Studio - can't beat that. ;)

Same thing here, Trev.

Lori, thanks very much for posting the link. I'm not a 3D'er so I'd
never buy the program, but this is a great chance to at least see
what you and Adriaan and Ron are talking about.

I have been playing in Daz But some of the content (clothes) that I found
dont work as it seams to be poser based. Tried Michal last night and put his
boots pant and shoe's on but his chest poked though his T shirt and When I
tried adjusting it kept scaling by 1000%.
I am waiting to see how much the content I bought in $ is going to cost me
in £ before I buy any more content

Two things to watch for....

1. Sometimes, you need to conform the clothing to the model to force a
correct fit. Select the article of clothing, then go to the Params,
click on 'Conform to...' and select the model's name.

2. Different rev levels don't always match. Clothing for Michael
doesn't fit Michael v3, for example. That's a shame, since there's so
much available for all three versions.

Trev, "poke through" is common. What most folks do to correct it - if=20
adjustment to the offending body part or to the clothing doesn't help -=20
is either open a render in an image editor and clone over the offending=20
part or in the 3D app make the offending body part transparent before=20
rendering.

You probably will not be able to download it for a day or two But login the
go to My Stuff where you should see it listed if all has gone well If you
then click on the setup exe ling first it will start the download or bring
up a message saying they have exceeded the amount of downloads ect. If its
in your my stuff folder You can download it at any time without a time
limit. If its not in the my stuff folder then the Register did not work

There's no reason to download now, if Poser 5 is in your cart. I'd wait
a couple weeks to try to download it. What's in your cart will be there
waiting for you. :)

Hmm, let me clarify that: As long as you've added Poser 5 to your cart
_and then checked out_, the download link will be there waiting for you
to download at your leisure.

And for anyone who didn't take advantage of the download but wished they
had, Content Paradise has extended the offer up to Sept 8, so there's
still time to snag a free copy of Poser 5.

When all the hoopla dies down, things will be better. For the heck of
it, I tried downloading a copy this evening (NYC time). 25% downloaded
before it choked. Even if you wait a few weeks, I've found that some
time that isn't evening in the continental US is usually the best time
to download from Content Paradise. I'm not sure how accurate that rule
of thumb is, but it has seemed to work pretty well for me.

Boy, boy !!
I tried to download several times.
After the third time, yes it started to download.
But the information was that the download would take some 7 (seven) hours !!
And I have a reasonable fast broadband.
So I cancelled the download and will try in a few days.
My question, is this the expected time for this program to download?
Anybody have experienced the same long time for this download.

My suggestion is that you wait much longer than a few days. I have DSL known
as ADSL in Australia and when my download started it said 3 1/2 hours but I
lost my connection when I was halfway through the download. Fortunately I'm
on 'unlimited' but some people pay more when they exceed their download
limit. Where do you live Skill?

I'm in Holland too, with fast cable. I haven't once gotten past the
'bandwidth exceeded' message :-) The message of 7hrs may be
incorrect, you know how those numbers will drop down fast once a

Hurah !!
Just for the interest of others.
This afternoon I was able to download Poser5 and the Zip-file.
And I installed the program OK.
It took a bit too long in my opinion - the .exe file in about one hour fifteen minutes and
the zip-file in one hour fourty minutes.
Anyhow it is on my computer and it works.
Now I have to learn this program.
If anybody has advise on this, please tell.
Tomorrow I will have a further look.
Now I am off to watch the US Open tennis semi-final for men.
Have a nice week-end,

Does anybody else have problems installing the Zip file. I'm now downloading
it for the third time. Each time when I try to expand the zip file in "Stuff

although it expands "Ok" when I click on the only ".exe" file nothing

What does "installing the Zip file" mean? A Zip file is a compressed
file, whose contents you decompress and extract. You don't install
them.

As far as I know the free download of Poser 5 comprises two files
First there is Setup.exe (300,206,895 bytes) which isn't a Zip
file at all. Then there is Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero.zip (of
size 360,757,262 bytes), which is a Zip file containing 1681
different files in a variety of subfolders located under the main
folder of Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero. Example folders are:
Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero\Templates
Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero\imgs\
Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero\content\
Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero\artist\
and so on. The last two have many subfolders. Extraction of files
from the Zip file needs to take folder location into account.

There is an exe file in Poser 5 SR4 Content CD Hero.zip. It is
ShellExecute.exe. However, you shouldn't be running it from the
Zip file. You should extract everything first and use the
Autorun.inf file to get things started. The Zip file is essentially
the content of a CD that you would normally get in a box with
the Poser software. The Setup.exe program, when run, starts the
installation of Poser itself. The Zip file holds the content
used by Poser.

> Help please!!!!!!!!!

Your description of what you have doesn't match the reality of
what I have very well. Be more specific about file names and
executable names.

My error was to unzip the Content Hero.zip directly to the Poser software.
But I realized later that I should have done this in another way.
So I deleted the Content Hero part where I had it unzipped to.
Can you please explain again.
I did extract the zip-file and I see the Autorun.inf file.
Now you say to use that file to get things started. But how ?
Dubbel clicking did not work; right click and open did not work.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Skill. You have to install the files manually. First unzip the content
file (which you have done) then double click on the "index.htm" file. Your
default browser will then open and you can examine the contents from there.
Select the content you want to install by clicking on it in the browser and
this will open another zip file which you have to again unzip. Open the
unziped folder and drag the "runtime" folder into either the Poser 5
directory or open the Downloads folder, depending on which Library you want
to install the content too. Because the Poser 5 directory and the Downloads
folder each already have a Runtime folder, windows will ask you if you want
to proceed. Just answere "yes" and thats it. I suggest that you install the
contents to the downloads folder this will keep the contents that were
installed by the program separate from the contents in the zip file. You
will have to do this for each piece of content you want to install. If that
is not clear please ask.

I should mention that I have already found an error in the installation
files. the unzipped contents refer to "Characters" but this should be
"character" no "s". If you don't delete the "s" you will not be able to find
those contents in your library.

Hi Adriaan,
Thank you for your "lesson". All went OK now.

Do you advise to move the items in the "Characters" map to the map
"Character".

Another question. Can you direct me to a tutorials site.
The program is absolutely new to me and needs a lot of study, I think.
Thank you again.
Kind regards,
Skill

Hi Skill,

whether you need to do anything depends on if you have installed content
with this problem. To find out go to Runtime > Libraries. If you have a
folder "Characters"; move it to the Desktop, and change its name to
"Character" leaving off the "s". After that drag it back into the Libraries
folder. Windows will tell you that there is already a folder "Character" and
ask you if want to proceed. Just answere "yes" and thats it.

Sorry I don't know what you mean by "map".

As far as tutorials go just have a look at the Content Paradise site. There
are also some good Forums around. I learnt mostly by trial and error.
I'm still learning myself but if you have any questions someone here might
be able to help.

Regards,

Obviously there's a learning curve to the program. I took a rutabaga
picture because it was easy to take the texture from (and because
Spandex posting in this thread gave me a good excuse), and I thought
I could get the texture on a whole body not just the face. No such
luck yet, though I did in the end manage stick the face onto the
body. Only the body had its parts in positions that made it a good
emergency room exercise :-)

One thing I did finally learn, and that is why the lighting on the
bodies is often so odd to me, like they are standing by a campfire:
it's the default setting of the lights.

I don't think you used Poser 5. It looks more like Poseur 5 :)

I never got more than Poseur 1.0.0 at birth, and a trial version at
at.

Face it, your identity is fair game for a bit of innocent and
friendly image fun every once in a while. Don't look for what isn't
there... there's too little opportunity in these groups to make some
graphic fun as it is. If I were on Poseur 5, I'd dress and shape you
like Cher with the face of Einstein (but without the moustache).

Joske :-)

You were the one complaining the texture didn't make it to the
whole body :)

I'm not bent out of shape about it.

I think the mustache and tongue work wonders for the image :)

Well what was I supposed to think when I visited the link to
'poseur'... give a little leeway to a tired Dutch brain, it's
getting confusing with all these languages.

It said someone who pretends in order to impress, not someone not
knowing how to dress. So I thought you were saying I was out to
impress you with the Poser Baga Babe.

Were you impressed? I still think the real you in the fancy green
pants are way more attractive.

You have to have the right body shape to wear Spandex.
