Author cartoon effect

Does anyone know of a plugin or something along that line that will take a
persons picture (in a separate layer) and turn it into a cartoon like
character.

Thanks
Tim

Depends on what sort of cartoon-like effect you want. Here's one
approach. Duplicate the original layer twice. On the top layer, apply
Effects | Edge Effects | Find All followed by Adjust | Brightness and
Contrast | Threshold. Set the blend mode of that layer to Multiply. Then
make the layer below that one active and apply Effects | Artistic
Effects | Posterize. Go back to the top layer and adjust the opacity as
needed. (The bottom layer is there just in case you want another copy of
the original layer.)

And here's another variation in which Adjust | Add/Remove Noise | Edge
Preserving Smooth is applied to the lower duplicate layer before
Posterize is applied.

And here's what you'd get if you didn't use the Find All layer, but just
the one to which you applied Edge Preserving Smooth followed by Posterize.

Could you post a link to an example of what you would like to
see as the "cartoon like character" result.

If by cartoon-like you mean something like a caricature, here's a=20

I dug around on the site for a while, but I couldn't find a script called
'Comic Book 9' - or any comic book script, for that matter. Pity, for that
seems exactly the effect I was looking for a few weeks ago, and would like
to try again.

Perhaps it is a combination of several other DAR scripts, like Hatch +
Warhol...?

The reason you were asked to show examples has to do with the
limited ability of scripts to produce real "hand drawn" cartoon
effects. These results from Photoshop actions should illustrate
some of the limitations for you:
http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/ph...blactions02.htm
Part of the reason for these problems is illustrated by lighting
concepts used in real cartooning, such as these:
http://www.pensnpixels.com/shedlight.htm
Those are reasons why it is not very clear just what it is you
want.

No it is a script in itself may have been posted to
the lists at sometime. If there is an addy at the site write
directly and ask her if it is available and where.
I am not sure where it would be housed otherwise.

Sorry it took so long to get back. Just wanted to let you know that this
particular script was exactly what i was looking for. I wasn't real sure
how to ask the question...other than cartoon like..I thought of asking for a
surreal cartoon effect but that would have just mucked up the water even
move. Thanks to all.

Let's say it's a sort of watercolor cartoon, I don't know if the
expression exists but it does seem appropriate.

I'm glad it was what you could use.
