Excellent, Gail. This one looks very 3D, imo. I've never been
able to get anything like this out of XD. You should be glad
you're not my neighbor because if you were, I'd be over all of
the time for lessons :-))

Brilliant!
I'll have this in a large frame on my wall anytime, love it.

This is rather nice. Coming from someone who's not into fractals,
this should sound like a compliment :-)

The 3D really comes through and the shapes and colors are very nice.

Excellent . . I like this one. I didn't do anything in UF for a
couple weeks and it is amazing how much one can forget in that time.
I still love XD so I should work with that too. So many fractals -
so little time. :)

That's really nifty, Gail. -Lori

I'm pretty much a lurker here. I'm not much on fractals. But I had to come out and say something about this one. This is just awesome. It is now my wallpaper on my computer at work and will be on my systems at home as soon as I leave work. Nice job!

Thanks, Michelle! Being your neighbor would be sayyy too much fun - think of
the tricks we could play on Lucy and Bear (not to mention on our hubbies,
hehehe!). I wouldn't mind giving you XD lessons, but you'd have to pay me in
caffeine ;-))

The serious answer: This is the first time I've tried doing this type of 3D
effect in XD, and it really isn't hard. The main thing is to do two
different renders of the same parameter. Save the first as an image. Then
when you render the second one, you need to open the image you saved as the
background picture (that option is on the file menu someplace, but I'm not
awake enough yet to look it up. Where's that caffeine?;-0!). You can think
of it the same as you would two layers PSP, but the advantage of doing it in
XD in addition to being able to make changes to the fractal and lighting
right there and then, is that the mask will be in place once you do take it
into PSP for tweaking. Then you can try different things in PSP to get more
of a 3D effect, for example in this one I added the MuRa clouds.

Hope this makes sense. You know what I'm like without caffeine i.e. like you
but with messier hair LOL!!!

After that caveman comment of yours the other day, I think anything might
sound like a compliment (just kidding!). Your comment on the fractal is very
much appreciated :-)

Thanks, Jeanne! I needed some fractal playtime i.e. a break from chromatic
aberration, blown highlights, oversharpening halos, etc. ;-)

Thanks, Barb! Is your course with Janet still going on or has it finished? I
love the color schemes she uses in her fractals. This one was originally
purple and green - not a bad scheme, but I want to learn how to incorporate
some of her coloring ideas into my own fracs.

Thanks, Lori! XenoDream is the only 3D-related app that I've ever been able
to wrap my brain around.

Thanks so much, Dianna, I'm very flattered! Now that you've come out of lurk
mode, I hope you'll be posting more often ;-)

I don't know if anyone's hair is worse than mine in the morning,
LOL. Thanks! I didn't know about this and I haven't played with
XD for a while. I'm going to have to give it a try :-)

We are just finishing UF Artistry and Janet gives good information
on coloring which I haven't studied enough yet. I will give you a
little more info in e-mail.
