What is the best resource for learning to draw and paint with PSP? For
instancif I wanted to learn how to draw a mangna style comics? I was trying
to sketch somthing but I am not sure whether to use a paint brush (but which
brush, wihich brush settings) or a pen? I tried to sketch some thin line
with the default brushes but the lines I draw are not very smooth? Is PSP a
good (enough) tool for making art or should I use another one?

Hi Frank,
you cannot do it without learning vector drawing.
And using a graphic tablet like a Wacom will help too...

Cordialement,
Jean-Luc Ernst

I'm no expert but Jean-Luc has already answered your question; learn how to
do Vector drawing. I have the same problem and intend learning this by
reading the Paint Shop Pro. manual. I'm sure there will be tutorials on the
internet (try doing a Google search.).

May be somebody else will answer your question and tell you where to look
for tutorials.

Start here

There are dozens of manga tutorials for Photoshop.. the process is pretty
similar in PSP-- google for
manga photoshop tutorial.....

Have a few good manga example images open in PSP and use them for
comparison with the drawing/painting tools in PSP. However, I think
vector is indeed your best bet.

This http://www.webinchains.it/sfondi_de...ga/manga_03.jpg may
well be done wholly vector with antialias checked. A line width of 2
with the color 190-150-110 looks close. Use Point to Point to make
the curves. The shadows and lighter parts would be separate vector
shapes. If you turn down the opacity of your vector layer, why not
try to draw over an image like this to get a feel for the curves.

A few PSP tutorials by Deviant Art members here:
http://resources.deviantart.com/tutorials/psp/

Since anime and manga are close, you could do a tutorial search for
either.

These general tutorials look good:

It occurs to me that one of the best manga artists I know
actually draws in pencil, then scans and cleans up the
sketches in the software (he's a Mac person and uses PS, not PSP)
and colors and shades them via computer.

But for the vector portion of the work, you might look at Illustrator,
Xara, or another Corel product like Draw. While vector work can be done in
PSP,
it seems that development of the vector features ground to a halt at version
9,
and you may be putting a lot of effort into learning to use a PSP toolset
that
is not being actively supported an developed by Corel.

Just a guess. If version X is any indication, apparently the bulk of the
development
effort is being placed in simplified photo editing tools-- so if what's in
there now isn't
meeting your needs, it may never get any better.
