I pipped you? Never heard that one! Do all of the horses have names? That's
so cool. The ones on the carnival's carousel don't have them.

'Morning Gail,
Is the expression 'pipped at the post' (meaning you got there first) unknown
in the US?
Funny how we use such expressions without considering not everyone might
know what it means :-)
I took this photo at the village fair. The owners of the carousel treat
their attactions as part of the family, very nice. They arrive 2 weeks
before the fair and set up camp. then slowly all the rides etc appear. It's
nice to see it spring into life.
:-)

I've never heard the expression used over here, though maybe people in other
areas of the US use it. Does your fair have exhibits of farm animals,
home-made foods, crafts, etc. as well as rides? What we would call the local
carnival has just rides and games, but also during the summer we have a
county fair which has farm displays and competitions (for the 'best pig,
best cow, best apple pie, etc. lol!) as well as a midway with rides.

Our county fair will be two blocks from my place this weekend. I only have
two days to get decent photos. Your carousel horses shots are really
impressive and I love what you've done to them. I don't care if you pipped
me on them; I might try something similar anyway. ;)

Hehe, good hunting!
Take lots and lots of photographs, I didn't have many photos of the rides,
which I now regret.

That looks similar to our annual County Fair, heavy machinery and all ;-) It
didn't occur to me to look for a link for it, but sure enough they have a
website:
http://www.cattarauguscofair.com/index.asp
Don't think we have anything as elegant as the Diggers, but there are things
like tractor-pulls and monster truck rallys. I've never seen either (and
can't say I really want to) though hubby talked me into going to a
demolition derby a few years ago. Sorry to hear you're having trouble with
your foot, Trev. Hope it improves soon.

I went to a truck-pull once (that is enough) because someone I
know has a truck "the Orange Crush." :) It was inside and the noise
and pollution were enough to make my head and lungs take immediate
alert. :)) Outside would have been more fun.

I believe you have the equivalent team over there too We used to have a
Joke about an Irishman that won the lottery (then the pools) He went and
bought a JCB 600 GT . well not to be out beat Jcb built a 100 mph turbo
powered JCB 600 GT to go round the show's.
Its better then the Red Barrows display team. This is based on the Flying
display by the RAF Red Arrows http://www.trevbowden.clara.net/ . But done by
a team of men in Red overalls pushing Wheel Barrows round in formation.
Then there was the Bingley show a small do that we played at during a
recruiting tour The Band of the 4/7 th Royal Dragoon Guards. There was a
wire across the arena for the mics or speakers that got caught in the Spurs
of the band as the marched up and down leaving just the Sgt Major to reach
the other side on his own

Hehe! Do you live in a rural area, Trev? The Red Barrows sound even more
entertaining than cow chip bingo ;-)

I dunno, Barb. Anything involving heavy machinery just doesn't sound like
fun to me no matter where it's held. Maybe I need to expand my horizons ;-0!
