Aunty, the coloring is great, compliments to Nightingail and Spandex
too as well as you. In many outcomes I see too much sharpness, not
so in yours.

The clothes look almost right, this could be in the late fifties or
early sixties. Only there's something about the clothes of the
gentleman on the left... well I don't know, it could be the snazzy
sunglasses too :-)

The photo also looks like you all had a nice sunny day.

Thanks Joske, it was a nice sunny day. Those are my sons, their grandmother
and the oldest one's Dutch companion Anita.

I think what I did that reduced the sharpness was to add another sketch
layer somewhere in the middle with opacity at about 67%.

I thought the young lady might be you, something about the hair
color and style, and the glasses. Please don't take this as an
insult, I have a picture of you in mind and obviously see you as
quite young :-)

Did you too run the script in X? That might explain the extra
sharpness from Edges.

By George I think you've got it. I did run the script in X come to think of
it.

My daughter's son is going to make me a great-grandmother in November, so
I'm not nearly as young as you picture me. Maybe my lack of worldliness
makes it seem so. Of course, between you and me, I was a baby when my
daughter was born, perhaps the main reason I haven't traveled much.

Joske, the postcards that I had in mind when I originally did the effect had
a somewhat over-sharpened look in real life, at least that's how I remember
them. I tried to find some pictures as examples, though it's probably hard
to tell because they're scans and have artifacts:

What's nice about Spandex' script is that people can delete or change the
sharpness layer to taste :-)

I know, I saw the original you posted that started Spandex on the
script. It's a different type of effect and card, and looking good.
I have cards like that myself (originals) in some photo albums, and
you recreated their looks well.

No, it's easy to tell. A very familiar look :-) Can I say it is a
certain soft-bluish to soft-peachy look, or is that the wrong
terminology?

Later insert: when looking for a picture of 'my' Rotterdam bridge
(JoeB, photography group), I found another good example of that
fifties' coloring almost at the bottom of this page, if you care to
look: http://www.engelfriet.net/Alie/zuchten.htm

I posted an example by me (in a thread I'm sorry to say it should
not have gone to) and added that the layers are very useful, because
indeed I made changes to their settings.

Spandex herself could probably explain why it seems to take a
certain photo to come out just right. I tried it on bad photos from
my old camera and newer ones. The newer ones suffer from the sharp
edges more.

I'll give it another go some time and probly post it - to the
photography group. I already wrote elsewhere that you two did
something sparking interest, I love it when that happens. And that's
aside from the pair of you being very funny on occasions :-)

No, your eyes and smile are young in the photo I'm thinking of. It's
the one you have used to show layouts and a card, if my memory
doesn't fail me.

Yep, that picture of the bridge shows the 50's coloring very well. I saw the
example you posted using the script in that other thread and I liked it very
much.

I've been thinking that I need to go in some new direction with my
graphics/photos/whatever. Maybe go back to fractals for awhile, I don't
know.

I think you just might enjoy doing a few (tutorial, steps, example)
pages of this effect and maybe two or three more for photos. It
could be a nice small collection including Spandex' script,
something I think people would like to visit and try for themselves.
