These are pretty cool, Joske. I remember my mother having a lot
of costume jewelery in the 1970's and some of the earrings she
had resembled your earrings.

Were they seventies' jewelery? I remember a lot of painted wooden
ones, don't know if they were the fashion. I do know I had my ears
pierced in '74 (well, one, the second one I preferred to do myself)
because there were so many happy earrings about. Before that, what I
mostly remember were delicate little knobs :-)

Late 60's and 70's most likely. A lot of it was metal that was
painted in bright colors. I still have some of her things packed
away. If I ever take them out and the earrings are there, I'll
photograph them.

That would be nice. I should have some of mine from that era (were
there earrings for dinosaurs too back then? I don't remember), maybe
I'll see where they are.

So did you make yourself some? I never forgot a photo you posted
long ago wanting to show you looked like Alfred Neuman at that
time... and you did, just a little :-) Wouldn't a pair of
hippy-colored rings on that photo make you look almost as good as
Spanny does with her Colorized specimens? Just a thought... for the
next Halloween challenge.

Much better. Look at the sides now. See the grain in the wood?
You should try to align that in the same direction that the
bottom of the wall is going.

Thanks very much Michelle, but you've lost me with your comment "You should
try to align that in the same direction that the bottom of the wall is
going". I want to get the most out off other poster wisdom so an explanation
would be much appreciated. :-)

Our eyes and brains like orderly patterns. So we cut along the
direction a lined pattern goes. And with wood, it's also a matter of
cutting up trees in the most economic way, I think.
Logically though, perspecive-wise, there's not much wrong with this
image: someone could have cut that slab of wood unaligned with the
grain. We people just don't like to look at it.
In your 'Room with a view' the woodblock (looks like a butcher's
block, it's so thick with the slabs vertically glued together), a
round object would roll off. In the 'Bench' image the perspective
looks okay to me.

OK, good ;-) I'm always looking back on things I've created and
noticing things like this, things that I didn't notice at the
time. We learn for next time :-).
Yes, it's a good thing you didn't install my floor but you
wouldn't be dead, just a little bruised until you got it right

Joske, I was hoping to be able to reply to this with a picture of me with my
best Alfred E. Neuman smile, and a pair of your earrings ;-) Have had a
bunch of busy days here, and I may still get to it - if not, as you say,
Halloween isn't too far off! You don't have to duck and run - I think it's a
hoot that I look a little like Alfred and I'm glad you are one of the few
people who isn't afraid to agree with me on that, hehe!

Just kidding, I thought it was another post by me gone into space.
