Hey folks
Before the natives come out and with spring a long long
LONG way away all I can do is play with my old shots
here is a black and white and fiddling with B&W points
of one of my fave imports, the African Clivia.

there now Joelle
it is one of the newer red varieties
I prefer swathes of the orange ones.
But it copes with frost - a good thing

Very pretty, Carrie! I like the effect. I haven't played with
black & white points (and a lot of other features), yet ;-).
These flowers (which I've never heard of) look great in black &
white, I bet they look fantastic in color :-)

That's great Carrie. Love effects like that.
I haven't tried it using B&W points, there is something lacking in my
education ..(I use Photofiltre for that effect).

This is a nice effect, either that or you know how to use it well.

I would not trade our weather with yours, we're so happy to finally
get some sunshine :-)

Nifty, Carrie. Do you remember what else you used besides B&W Points?
(Porter and I have both done some neat things sort of like this by
decreasing color depth to 2 Colors/1 bit.)

The technique also gives Porter the opportunity to describe the
Histogram Adjustment filter in her inimitably unique style:

This came out better in B&W I believe
as I had kinda stuffed the original shot.
I think I use the B&W points a lot more than I should
as I am ummmmmmmmmmm terrified of usind HA.
lol
thanks

Joelle
Thanks for the compliments
I use palleted images and then increase the colour depth
and use B&W points - as I said it is how I learned years ago and
not likely to change now.. Never tried Photofiltre.. I must have
a look at it.

I'm sure you can do more in PSP, you're just not showing it to us
:-)

I believe there is something soccer Dutch in half an hour too, am
off to find my earplugs.

If we don't share what we know and pick up pointers from each other

Do you remember this image by Catlady:

news://cnews.corel.com:119/436d78d8_3@cnews

I was going to do a couple pure PSP versions, and one approach is to use
Posterize. (The other - which I prefer - involves using various settings
for Threshold on multiple copies of the original.) I really do intend on
writing this up one of these days, but I see from the date on the
original post that I've been taking my own sweet time! *lol*

Lori
I am pretty sure I started this about the time of a posterize
discussion - but I couldn't get it to work for me so tried it differently.
I wish I could produce consistent results but no luck here :((

I would love to see a write up on the posterize technique and
threshhold to play with it (anything that works as expected would
be a bonus for me LOL)

One other thing I remember is my attempts to get a high key/
contrasty (flowers to BG) (?) sorta look by boosting red channels
and destaurating out the greens and applying a blur there..
and using a mask of the find edges script.
Before starting down the B&W path.

Not one of these ideas was a technique I developed but a
mish mash of ideas from here, web rtutorials, and from other reading.
I was just stunned to end up with a coherrent image LOL
